Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.
She came through inspections
Towards me in sections
The life disappeared from the room
She asked me politely
May I put this lightly?
The death that you thought was exhumed
It's buried beneath us
Since I wrote the thesis
I think I know better than you
Who taught you to live like that?
Who taught you to live like that?
Who taught you to live like that?
Who taught you to live like that?
It's buried beneath us
Since I wrote the thesis
Who taught you to live like that?
You circulate freely
Surrender completely
Wind up alone in the road
The light's gettin' brighter
The prize to the fighter
And now we got somethin' to hold
And if it gets heavy
You can't keep it steady
Remember the things you been told
Who taught you to live like that?
Who taught you to live like that?
Who taught you to live like that?
Who taught you to live like that?
It's buried beneath us
Since I wrote the thesis
Who taught you to live like that?
Ahahah ah ah
Ahahah ah ah
Ahahah ah ah
Ahahah ah ah
Who taught you to live like that?
Sounds a bit offside
Judgin' who just died
Who'll be the first to speak?
The piano was upright
Attendance was uptight
Countin' the days of the week
But 'round about midnight
Your comments were highlight
The party spilled into the street
Who taught you to live like that?
Who taught you to live like that?
Who taught you to live like that?
Who taught you to live like that?
But 'round about midnight
Your comments were highlight

He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
@iwishiwas: That's funny, this song always reminded me of John Lennon's voice.
I'm surprised there aren't more comments on a great song like this. I really have no idea what it could mean.
Great song, probably the best song on the most underrated album of 2006.
this song really sounds like early bob dylan.
