Lately Lyrics

I never knew much
Enough was enough
The reasons were not always there
But the look in your eyes
Hides that surprise
I would never have counted on this

CHORUS
Well lately
You look around
You're wondering what you're doing
Yeah lately
You look around
You're wondering what you're seeing
What you're doing

The taste of freedom
Was sweeter than love
'Cause you never had a chance to live
Your blue sky calls
To seduce and bewitch
And give you the wings of your fate

CHORUS

I never knew much
Enough was enough
The reasons were not always there
But the look in your eyes
Hides the surprise
I would never have counted on this

CHORUS

i've always looked at this song as the ending of a failed relationship -- "the taste of freedom was sweeter than love cause you never had a chance to live" makes me think of someone suffocating their lover so much that they no longer felt free when they were with them (they never had a chance to live), therefore having the feeling of finally being free from the relationship was better than the feeling of love itself at first. then as time goes on then comes in the chorus, this person is enjoying the freedom of being without a lover yet when the day ends they miss being with their significant other, no matter how restrained they were when they were with them -- "you look around, you're wondering what you're doing" ... just a thought :)

p.s. -- michael sounds so great in this song :) :) i love when he sings with music like this, it just seems to fit him so well in my opinion :)

A song about choosing freedom, or travelling, over love? Blue sky calls = airplane.
