Thursday Lyrics

On gentle ground I waited for you
In drops of dew
I wished that were you
With heavy hands
I reached out for you
My skin soaking wet
My eyes searched for you

It seems you lost your way
You’ve let it all fall apart
Nothing’s left here but you
All you do is remind me
Now that we’ve lost our way
The rest can all fall apart
All I see here is you
All it does is remind me

With sharpened tongue
I cried out for you
And must I refrain
Now that I need you
The autumn wind feels
As if it were you
And swayed through the fields
Where I once held you

It seems you lost your way
You’ve let it all fall apart
Nothing’s left here but you
All you do is remind me
Now that we’ve lost our way
The rest can all fall apart
All I see here is you
All it does is remind me

Whistle through your window
We act the same as you

Whistle through your window
We act the same as you

One of those beautiful songs I come back to every few years.

To me, it's very clearly about the end of a relationship. You can choose your definition of "relationship", but I see a straightforward song about the end of a romantic partnership. The song conveys feelings of hopefulness and desperation.

She's entering the beginning of the end. She searches for him. She yearns for him. She's hopeful and nostalgic.

She blames him for letting it all fall apart. He's "lost his way", whether that means he's strayed or he's letting her slip away. She just can't help but think of him.

She turns to desperation, and some anger. She cries out for this missing person, distraught that he's not there when she needs him most. She longs to hold him again.

Once again, she blames him. The music is louder and more intense to show her growing frustration. He did this, he let the whole thing falter, and yet here she is still wanting him.

I'm uncertain what the final lines mean, especially since the male singer sings them with her. Is he telling her that she's just as bad as him? Is he asking for empathy? Is it he who wants her to whistle through her window, to call for him despite his behavior? Is he yearning for her just as much. Is she just imaginging that he feels this way?

Her ghostly moans at the very end convey a sense of mourning, of acceptance.

I haven't yet dissected and compared each stanza and line in an attempt to really know what's behind these lyrics, but from first glance it looks like it could be a relationship of some sorts where it simply isn't what it used to be. Some of the lyrics hint that it is, in form, still a relationship, but the essence of what it was is either gone or changed to the perspective of the narrator.

I've been trying to find these lyrics for ages! Thanks for posting them.

Now that I know what she's saying in this song, I love it even more. What's great is that the message the lyrics convey is what I picked up before when I could honestly only make out a few words. The song's about recalling memories of a lover (or someone you had something special with) and then feeling lost without them. It's about the feeling of needing that person.

this is a wonderful song with very bittersweet lyrics about remembrance and longing in a detached mannerism... kind of cure-ish in it's context.

yuki sings it so beautifully too.

Thank you for whoever posted the lyrics- I've been searching for them also for ages. This site is awesome. I'm going to have to digest these lyrics for a little bit. The song is so deceiving- it is so light and beautiful but the lyrics I couldn't quite make out are more bittersweet than I thought.

I totally agree with you hunteriv. I too could never understand the lyrics but I definitley felt what they were trying to say. And now that I look at the lyrics of the song, they're just so perfect. The music by itself, without the lyrics, conveys the mood perfectly. Man, I must admit that it got me thinking of when I've "been there". It's perfect mopey-but-hopeful music.

I woke up one sunday morning, turned on the Tube and there was the video of Thursday. Without knowing anything about the band, I began to weep over this song, b/c without evening knowing the lyrics, I just fell. The song reminds me of my lost love, and as she sings so beautifully, "we lost our way"....next lifetime i guess.
