She's a god in her own right
She dims the room light
While she moves closer
We all move slower

Tracing white lines
Sipping fine wines
We remember
When purity wasn't dead

Sex is the lioness
Queen of the temple
I look right in her eyes
And I'm down to her level

The sex is the lioness
Queen of the temple
I look right in her eyes
And I'm down to her level

Play unstable and let us get away
There's a point when their faces are all the same
We all act like pagans, they all will betray
She's speaking the language, she's burning the flame

In this darkness I can't remember
When we were stable, we were able
In this darkness I can't remember
When we were stable, no

The sex is the lioness
Queen of the temple
I look right in her eyes
And I'm down to her level

The sex is the lioness
Queen of the temple
I look right in her eyes
And I'm down to her level

The sex is the lioness
Queen of the temple
I look right in her eyes
And I'm down to her level

The sex is the lioness
Queen of the temple
I look right in her eyes
And I'm down to her level

The sex is the liar
The sex is the liar
I look right in her eyes

The sex is the lioness
Queen of the temple
I look right in her eyes
And I'm down to her level

The sex is the lioness
Queen of the temple
I look right in her eyes
And I'm down to her level

The sex is the liar
The sex is the liar

This song isn't really all that complicated. It's talking about the world and how it has an obsession with sex. In the first verse it says "She’s a god in her own right". This line is talking about how we worship sex and give it an overall importance in our lives that it shouldn't have. Throughout the song it keeps saying "The sex is the lioness" It's talking about how we are preyed by sex, we tormented and tempted by it all the time, and this song is about how wrong it is that we've put so much importance on it and not God.

it's a song about the perversion of sex. not only how it became a god to us, but how it's totally taken over, stalking us and dragging us down. "The sex is the lioness, queen of the temple. I look right in her eyes, then down to her level." basically how it's been degraded to something wicked and horrible. "The sex is the liar" describes how it pretends to be something it's not and what it wasn't intended to be.

I totally agree with what you've both said i just have one thing to ad, in the bible it says that we are a Holy Temple, we are God's, when we give up our body to sex and other demeaning practices God is no longer the kind of the temple, Sex become "The Queen of the temple" and 'she' calls the shots and drives our ambitions. Another interpretation of sex is a liar, is most people think that the more sex the more gratification but it degrades more than uplifts outside the bonds of a healthy marriage even if they get passed that sex while married tends to become boring and sex just becomes a lie, a thrill to find whenever.

I agree with you guys...the part that says "You’ve taken something sacred and made it a game Your perversions are wicked and fanning the flame" is saying how sex is nothing for us anymore...in bible times if you slept with some1 that wasnt your husband you could be put to death but now its just the norm... and tourniquet did you just say that sex inside the boundries of marrige becomes boring???

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
