Paralytic Lyrics
Paint the lines on perfect eyes that circle the object of
my sincere affection, my undivided attention
Lie where you won't see yourself in that way
And we'll ride to somewhere
All we are is paralyzed from the face down
We're still alive with our fake smiles
When the camera's away
Don't remember this. No, don't remember this
We are losing it all, but we are gaining the world with our hands tied
Your arms placed upon mine
And the sky looks so right, and you're mine tonight
Lie where you won't see yourself in that way
And we'll ride...
All we are is paralyzed from the face down
We're still alive with our fake smiles
When the camera's away
my sincere affection, my undivided attention
And we'll ride to somewhere
We're still alive with our fake smiles
When the camera's away
We are losing it all, but we are gaining the world with our hands tied
Your arms placed upon mine
And the sky looks so right, and you're mine tonight
And we'll ride...
We're still alive with our fake smiles
When the camera's away

Did anyone know that Chino Moreno is also on this track. Now sure which set of vocals are his but, he is singing on this track.
I think that this song is talking about how we hide our true feelings, we're ashamed of what we think, of what we feel, so we put on the "fake smiles" To hide what we feel from the rest of the world
Hiding from what we feel. Pretending to be okay. Faking a smile to avoid the questions, to get by.
DP really has an amazing style.
When he sings "all we are is paralyzed from the face down".. it gives me chills, it's so good.
GlassInTheTreesx said it best man, this song is so amazing, dead poetic knows how to play fucking music
i think its about how we lose ourselves without realizing it.
When you close yourself off from the world you tend to hide it behind a fake smile, pretending to be okay. So after the storm passes, you've grown so used to being walled up inside of yourself you don't realize you're still doing that same thing. Even when nobody is around, continue to do it. Slowly but surely you are pushing the people closest to you away, slowly losing it all, and you can't do nothing, because you're so caught up in your own defenses.
The way I would take this song...from the way that it's sung, and the layout of the lyrics...
They are saying that we as people will put on a facade to get what we want..."Paint the lines on perfect eyes".
When Chino says in the second verse, "We are losing it all, but we are gaining the world with our hands tied, Your arms placed upon mine, And the sky looks so right, and you're mine tonight", he's showing that he got what he wanted although there's really nothing gained, and certainly nothing lost on his part.
This is an incredible song and it's a shame that it was never played live...would have been a great one to see Chino on stage wailing away at with Dead Poetic.
From what I see, the line "all we are is paralyzed from the face down" means that although we may speak and give a good cover/ac (facially or otherwise), that does not mean we will follow it out with actions, hence the "paralyzed from the face down". It is basically speaking of how insincere people are these days with our "fake smiles". That's my take on it anyways.
