Cemetery And Sundown Lyrics

We rise with the sun in the underworld
We suffer from a graveless name
We prise wide lids and wounds with lips curled
Over teeth that have tasted shame

Tasted shame
Cemetery and sundown

Against the flora of nightfall
We gather like the fauna of war
To curse Aurora so spiteful
With her stake in the coming of dawn

To conjure forth the past
Those heady nights of pain resplendent
In the service of the Goddess of Death
When her sheets ran royalty red

Moons lengthen our crypt kept silhouettes
Shadows dance, eyes flicker in descent
Unveil the greed, our needs are bitter spent
On upturned mouths and haunts of wickedness

We walk this Eden, a secret
Faces hidden under Leonine pride
In dusk's embrace we find it hard to keep it
When blood and lust and waking worlds collide

And waking worlds collide
Cemetery and sundown

Too long have we skulked like drifters
In the cities of the neon sun
Vagabond dogs and graveyard shifters
Mona Lisa's, where the paint has run

I miss our glorious past
Our nightly flights on fear dependent
Like phantoms in the caves for Miss Christine
When the song bird broke her neck

Wolves howl their fogbound serenades
Churches arch their backs with balustrades
Praise be to the shedding of masquerades
When we hunt these vestal vermin unafraid of the covenant made

Draw the blinds on the floors of raw meat
There is murder in the thirst

Rich red vascular tapestries
Hung in gilded frames of nuns asleep
In dreams where themes of hestiality
Are a blessing on their Sunday sheep

Cemetery and sundown
Over cemetery and sundown

Now the clock is harrying midnight
And the ghost of yet to come
Will she show rewrites of dark delight
Over the sewers we've overrun?

I see a winter palace
Cut diamonds into porcelain neck
When Swan Lake crushed poor sanity's spirit
As I threw out to it bled

We rise with the sun in the underworld
We suffer from a graveless name
We prise wide lids and wounds with lips curled
Over teeth that have tasted shame

We walk this Eden, a secret
Faces hidden under Leonine pride
In dusk's embrace, we find it hard to keep it
When blood and lust and waking worlds collide

And waking worlds collide
And waking worlds collide

According to Dani on the website interview about the album, he says it's about vamps. You know...old school cradle yak yak yak.

yer, i havnt seen that interview, but by looking at the lyrics you can tell its about Cradles past, for example the line "i miss our glorious past" kind of gives it away, unless it has some other meaning?? and of course the lines "in dusks embrace" is obviously refering to Dusk and Her Embrace. "we walk this eden a secret" could also refer to many older Cradle songs, the one that stands out to me is From the Cradle To Enslave. Cradle changed drasticaly for this album (i prefer the older stuff tbh) and you can tell this is looking back on their past, if im wrong, tell me yeh??

Yeah, its about vampires. "We rise with the sun in the underworld" When the sun rises in the underworld (sets) they rise, like vampires would.

"Rich Red Vascular Tapestries" Sounds to me like they're hungry for blood.

And I don't think they would say that they miss their glorious past if they were talking about themselves, because that would be like admitting that they sold out. Personally, I don't think they sold out, but there is an obvious difference in their sound on the new one. It almost sounds like Dani's vox are worn out, cuz I don't ever hear him get as high as he used to. Also, the rest of the band sounds like they are getting lazy. They don't have the blistering drum beats and the crazy riffs that they used to, but its still good. I kinda like it toned down.

theres nothin cryptic about it.blindingly obvious actually

I don't know if this is the REAL meaning, but this is what I got from the song and given the diversity between meanings I'm slightly uneasy about sharing, but I quit caring 10 minutes ago. I believe it's about those of us that are different from the "in-crowd" and how the day we stand up will be a glorious day for all. I'll break some of it down:

"When blood and lust and waking worlds collide Waking worlds collide" It's speaking of WHEN the two groups clash, both groups have lived together under unfair ruling and in the future they will clash for a more just cause (aka- the people who are different and the "normal" people go into all-out war (I'm not speaking of literal war of course))

"Too long have we skulked like drifters In the cities of the neon sun Vagabond dogs and graveyard shifters Mona Lisa's where the paint has run" It's saying, we've dealt with this crap way to long it's time to stand up as one unified army. I believe the 3rd and 4th lines are describing those of us who are different.

"Churches arch their backs with balustrades Praise be to the shedding of masquerades When we hunt these vestal vermin unafraid" Interp- The group as a whole will do this on their own they will need no other group's assistance. We are unveiling the truth and showing these "normal" people exactly what they are. We'll be ruthless in the war.

"Now the clock is harrying midnight And the ghost of yet-to-come Will she show rewrites of dark delight" Interp- We will rewrite the past with the future.

I know I left several stanzas out, but I have a life too you know! I got the main parts and explained how I found my interpretation. If you like my interpretation, fine, if you don't like it, deal with it.

In response to Cradle's recent lull in all matters of a vampyric nature, this track is akin to a revenant anthem; A song that unites the legions of the undead, urging them to forget the covenant with mortal kind, come forth out of the shadows where they feed like jettisoned animals and rekindle the passion to muster and master the night....ruling over the humans as is their Draconian birthright. This also feature's vocals from Sarah Jezebel Deva.

Reminds me of Midian and the nightbreed ..

Sorry, I forgot to add this part :-).... I don't think it's about Cradle's past. "I miss our glorious past" I have an interp that goes along with my meaning, but I'm not sure of it. I think they are saying that they loved it when the people who are different victimized instead of being victims. If I'm wrong, I know it isn't about Cradle's past because they usually aren't so straight forward with their meanings. And I also don't believe Dani's vox has worn out or the members are slacking off I believe thy are experimenting with ideas. They don't want all their songs to sound the same. And plus you can just tell by all of their interviews that they are very busy and work hard on their albums (I specifically remember reading an interview before Midian came out. The band turned down an entire tour in order to put their full effort in their album and that's what I like about Cradle is that they produce PERFECT results EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!! And last, but not least, vampires. I can see how vampires could be incorporated here, but I think they are describing how two completely different groups live in the same world and one stalks the night while other thrives during the day. As in they are living in the same world yet two separate worlds at the same time, which I also get that feeling when they talk about sewers. When you think about it above and below ground are in the same world, but two totally different worlds at the same time. And I leave you with-- goodbye!
