I Cut Off My Hair Lyrics

I cut off my hair and went to sleep
You were there, in my dream, nursing on a glass teat
It was a party, you were sucking liquor--
On your jacket a VIP sticker
It was a party, you were sucking liquor--
On your jacket a VIP sticker

I peed in my pants and ran down the street
Towards Washington Square Park,
Where you had been beat up
You were wearin' rags, I was wearing pointe shoes
I tried to lay next to you but you hit the snooze
The definition of
A crazy person is
Someone that does the same things
Over and over again while expecting new results
I cut off my tongue--you started to kiss me
Blood trickled down--don't you ever miss me?
Don't you ever miss meat?
Don't you ever mince meat?
Don't you ever mincth meat?

I called up my momma but I couldn't be sweet
So I escaped through the window on a rope made of sheets
Got bitten by a squirrel and stepped on a syringe
The view of Manhattan from GW Bridge
You said, "Honey?"
I said, "Baby?"
You said, "Funny"
I said, "Maybe"
You says, "Hi honey"
I says, "Hey baby"
You asked, "Was it funny?"
And I said, "Well maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe"

I cut off my hair and went to sleep
You were there, in my dreams nursing on a glass teat
I cut off my hair and went to sleep
You were there, in my dreams nursing on a glass teat
The definition of
A crazy person is
It was a party, you were sucking liquor--
On your jacket a VIP sticker
It was a party, you were sucking liquor--
On your jacket a VIP UH
On your jacket a VIP UH
On your jacket a VIP UH
On your jacket a VIP

Okay here is my take on this song.

The first line of the song ultimately sets the tone. "I cut off my hair and went to sleep"

Often when I got frustrated about my life, my love life inparticular, I found myself prone to trying to change something about myself and then I immediately regretted the decision and subsequently went to sleep to escape whatever was frustrating me.

She begins to sing about a dream she is having about her estranged love, and it seems by the use of partying and a "VIP" sticker on his jacket, he changed, something happened to them where he just fell away from her, maybe thought he was better; something changed in their relationship. She wonders if he misses her all the time, she feels like he still loves her, someway. They present a contrast in clothing when she is trying to be with him, which might be a metaphor for how he is wasting his life partying while she is expressing herself creatively (rags vs pointe shoes), he just conintually pushes her away (hitting the snooze).

"I tried to lay next to you but you hit the snooze The definition of A crazy person is Someone that does the same things Over and over again while expecting new results I cut off my tongue--you started to kiss me Blood trickled down--don't you ever miss me?"

She feels like she keeps having the same dream about him, and she can't stand herself because of it. She calls herself crazy because she does the same thing everytime she has the dream, and she still misses him afterwards.

At least that is what it means to me.

I agree with The Aggressor and will add some more to this.

I cut off my tongue--you started to kiss me Blood trickled down--don't you ever miss me? Don't you ever miss meat? Don't you ever mince meat? Don't you ever mincth meat? → Cut off my tongue is a metaphor. for not being able to speak, but in dreams you have to have a reason for things. Which is why she can't speak in the dream -- because of her own tongue-tied self her subconscious hasto come up with a reason why she can't speak in the dream. I think the play on words with "miss me" and " mince meat" is Regina being funny and quirky in the way that if her tongue were cut off, she would fuck up on words.

One of my new favorites by Regina! Not entirely sure of the meaning yet, but I'm working on it. :)

this song has got to be one of my favorite regina songs.

what i THINK that its about is a person, lets say its a girl, who is out of a relationship, and notices her ex, whom i will say is a boy. he is now of some new sort of social standing, like hes so far above her, so out of her league. and i like what other people have been saying about the cutting off the hair to try change, to sort of get a new look, and see if that really does change things. and when hes sucking on the teat, it shows that he may be of some high social standing, but hes still a child. a silly, silly child, making dumb mistakes. the next part, about the peeing in her pants breaks my heart. like i can totally visualize a situation like this, and its sad. shes gone mad, you know, and she still cares about this boy, no matter how he feels about her, she wants him to meet up with her somehow, like with the i tried to lay next to you but you hit snooze. its like hes saying "next!" she still cares about this guy, and wants to have things to do with him. i really cant finish saying what i have to say, because i have a major assignment that im trying to get done on romeo and juliet (blegh) but, yeah. I ADORE REGINA!

I think Regina Spektor can sing and write whatever she wants, and you can depect it however you want. Her songs are fun, but utter nonsense, which is what makes them cool.[:

My Opinion

Isn't the whole thing her dream? She says so when she sings "you were in my dreams" so that leads me to believe she was singing about her dream (which she has done also in the song "Chemo Limo"). But that's just my opinion, it may be completely different.

hahaha.....wow i got a completely differing meaning...i think it was written in the perspective of a schitzo person.... you know paraniod....squirell and syrngles are stereotypical hallucinations for schitzaphrenics. and she talks about the def. of a crazy person...and all these crazy senarios....sound like a crazy persons mind to me...

I'm gonna completely buy into what The Agressor has said about the meaning. Awesome.

One note is that "definition of a crazy person is someone you does the same thing over and over again while expecting new results" is a quote from Albert Einstien.

After "Well maybe, maybe..." Regina makes monkey noises :D

la la la la la oo oo oo...

I agree with angstiosis and The Agressor. I love this song, I always get goosebumps when she says "blood trickled down, don't you ever miss me?"
