first off, these lyrics are not correct. and one simple incorrect word can alter the meaning of a song.

Possibly- just possibly... this isnt a sad song about losing a lover to a disease...but an angry song about breaking up with a lover because of their addiction to drugs.

it could also be HIV. there are three pills normally taken, the azt. the virus gaining would also make sense in this case, since the farther along it goes, the less your body can fight.

maybe it's a mixture of both. angry/sad song about the death of a lover because they cheated on them and received HIV.

In my interpretation.

The song is about a man who loved a woman, Janet, but she'd keep leaving him so the love developed into a powerful desire to control her.

So when she left him again, he noticed that she'd left her pills. Perhaps she had been suffering from a disease.

When she called up, dying, he tells her that it's her time to go, meaning he doesn't love her anymore to protect her from anything, he wants to save himself from the pain.

It's a bitter, angry song with hurtful revenge.

I like calic0misfit's idea. First of all, the official lyrics are indeed wrong and his lyrics are accurate. Second, I do think that it's a song of vengeance and hatred. The music doesn't exactly fit the description of sad. It's a bit somber in the beginning but the tone of it becomes very sharp and a tad hateful. So I think that they got into a fight over something such as her cheating on him and as she hastily left, she dropped her pills for some disease that she has. And I think that he found out this way. So I think that she called to tell him that she was dying and she needed her pills to hang on, but he won't give them back. It seems like that to me. He wants her to die for putting him into so much pain. And also I'm guessing that she has AIDs or something which would make it even more ironic. Since she cheated on him and probably got them in that act.
