Detective's Daughter Lyrics
She was calling around to find half an hour
She walked right into my mirror
Says she's here to waste time I said "That's fine."
Listen, to thyself be true
Every thread, every hair re-arranged to resemble
You could have her, detective daughter copy
Please don't be me
There are so many skirts under the table
None of these long legs are mine
She calls around finds me crying, wish i were capable of lying
sometimes
Love is hell, hell is love
Hell is asking to be loved
Hide out and then run when no one's looking
She's still calling around to find half an hour
She'll always have a place in the mirror
She's got no more time, i said "That's fine"
I'm all out too
To thyself be true
She walked right into my mirror
Says she's here to waste time I said "That's fine."
Listen, to thyself be true
Every thread, every hair re-arranged to resemble
You could have her, detective daughter copy
Please don't be me
There are so many skirts under the table
None of these long legs are mine
She calls around finds me crying, wish i were capable of lying
sometimes
Love is hell, hell is love
Hell is asking to be loved
Hide out and then run when no one's looking
She'll always have a place in the mirror
She's got no more time, i said "That's fine"
I'm all out too

she says
"love is hell, hell is love hell is asking to be loved"
NOT
"love is real, real is love love is asking to be loved"
that doesn't even make sense.
awesome song
This song vaguely reminds me of the movie Vertigo by Alfred Hitchcock.
These lyrics are incorrect.
It goes: Love is hell, hell is love. Hell is a scheme to be loved.
Or maybe there's a different version, but I've never heard it.
Makes no sense in context.

She is saying it is hell to have to ask someone to love you.
She is saying it is hell to have to ask someone to love you.
And the ending is: She's got no more time, and she wants mine. But I'm all out too.
Will someone let me know if there is a different version than the one on her Knives Don't Have Your Back album?
I am wondering if this is a play on the John Lennon song, Love. Love is real, real is love Love is feeling, feeling love Love is wanting to be loved
Love is touch, touch is love Love is reaching, reaching love Love is asking to be loved
Love is you You and me Love is knowing We can be
Love is free, free is love Love is living, living love Love is needing to be loved

"There are so many skirts under the table. None of these long legs are mine. She calls around finds me crying, Wish i were capable of lying sometimes"
I love this part. I think it's about her as a young girl, hidding under a table while her mom is with some friend. She can't figure out which pair of legs is her moms So when her mom starts looking for her, she starts to cry. But doesnt wanna look like a baby, so she wants to be able to lie about why she's crying.
Emily Haines is so awesome =]
