Better Than Drugs Lyrics

Feel your every heartbeat, feel you on these empty nights
Calm the ache, stop the shakes -- you clear my mind
You're my escape from this messed up place
'Cause you let me forget; you numb my pain

How can I tell you just all that you are?
What you do to me...

You're better than drugs
Your love is like wine
Feel you comin' on so fast, feel you comin' to get me high
You're better than drugs
Addicted for life
Feel you comin' on so fast, feel you comin' on to get me high

Feel you when I'm restless, feel you when I cannot cope
You're my addiction, my prescription, my antidote
You kill the poison, ease the suffering
Calm the rage when I'm afraid to feel again

How can I tell you just all that you are?
What you do to me...

You're better than drugs
Your love is like wine
Feel you comin' on so fast, feel you comin' to get me high
You're better than drugs
Addicted for life
Feel you comin' on so fast, feel you comin' on to get me high

How can I tell you just all that you are?
What you do to me...

Feel your every heartbeat, feel you on these empty nights
You're the strength of my life

you can... but you have to willingly admit your are not the god of yourself, that something else out there is worth living FOR. it's an amazing freedom you can receive, and i hope you find it. if you don't have an outlet, go read the Bible, and if that's too intimidating, then Mere Christianity by CS Lewis, or Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper... Find Truth

I still think you (as in anyone) should just read the Bible. You cannot replace it with any other book. You'll only get half of the message. The Bible does seem intimidating at first. I think a lot of us who grew up in a religious family remember the Bible as a REALLY boring book that the priest or pastor would yap about how we need to "be good and give money lest we burn". But really if you read the Bible you'll be surprised how different it at actually is from the so called religious people. I think the Jesus a lot of us learn...

First the comment by Belmagus2: He's talking about himself, how God feels his every heart beat -- not vice versa. And, a girl better than drugs? Love is like wine? Coming up so fast? You seem unlogical.

I've personally seen and talked with Skillet at their concert at Aquire the Fire in Hamilton last year. It's about the experience of breaking down, and overing it all over to Christ.

Letting everything go, and trusting in the fact that you have somebody watching over your back.

Not just a numbing feeling, that comes and passes making you feel worse than you were before.

headbangforjesus, wut do u mean it annoys u that they're trying to reach non christians? thats wut God calls us to do, go out and make disciples among the nations, i mean its awesome that they're tying to reach the non christian crowd. and theyre just using drugs as an example, but there is a lot of ppl that this song would make sense to even if it doesn't make sense to u.. i love their heart in this song, plus the song just rocks so hardcore, lol

I am a christian. And I'm sorry, but when I hear this song, I think about my ex and cry. Because he was truly better than drugs. Yes, I sin, I've replaced God by fixating on someone else more. But this truly was better than drugs, and his love is like whine. And I disagree with many of the opinions that "this is a christian band and all of the songs are about God!" NO! They don't have to be that! Because we humans can feel sush love among us too, believe me.

I was told, but Im not sure if it's true, but I heard that John Cooper really was on drugs but he found God. Does anyone know if that's true? Anyways, I believe it's about how he compares drugs to God, and that God is always better than drugs.

I was looking up stuff about that for my project on him and he never did drugs. he always found that God was a better answer then messing up ur life. He went to a Marlyin Manson concert once and when he saw that he was dissin Jesus he said that if he was on that stage he could have turned everyone to the loard. Now honesly speaking im not a big believer in god. But i do believe there is something of a higher power out there just not what the bible says it is.

Skillet being a christian band, im assuming that this is about god. and how a life with god gives a high of it's own. i'm not very religious but i wish i could have that level of conviction. cheers.

dude, your soul is searching for God and is crying out to Him. I hope and pray that your soul finds Who it is looking for.

Being a christian doesn't mean you have to be perfect, christianity is admitting you're a sinner in need of a savior. i'll definately be keeping you in my prayers :)

I'm not religious at all. Religion is just like a routine. I'd rather have a relationship with Jesus Christ. And yes this song is talking about how God is way better than drugs. It sounds very pretty and I like it!

I agree. Religion isn't just like a routine. Religion is a routine. I also think that was one of the reasons Jesus was against the Religious folk. They were lukewarm hypocrites just going through the motions.
