Blues Run The Game Lyrics
Catch a boat to England, baby,
Maybe to Spain,
Wherever i have gone,
Wherever i've been and gone,
Wherever i have gone
The blues are all the same.
Send out for whisky, baby,
Send out for gin,
Me and room service, honey,
Me and room service, babe,
Me and room service
Well, we're living a life of sin
When i'm not drinking, baby,
You are on my mind,
When i'm not sleeping, honey,
When i ain't sleeping, mama,
When i'm not sleeping
Well you know you'll find me crying.
Try another city, baby,
Another town,
Wherever i have gone,
Wherever i've been and gone,
Wherever i have gone
The blues come following down.
Living is a gamble, baby,
Loving's much the same,
Wherever i have played,
Wherever i throw them dice,
Wherever i have played
The blues have run the game.
Maybe tomorrow, honey,
Someplace down the line,
I'll wake up older,
So much older, mama,
Wake up older
And i'll just stop all my trying.

This is the deepest song I have ever heard. I first heard it as a cover done by The Decemberists and it quickly became one of my favorites. While it is so deep it is also simple:
Life sucks! Life sucks here! Life sucks there! Life sucks everywhere! The Grass is never greener! That's life!
how can there be no comments on this song? true beauty. to quote paraphrase William Carlos Williams "poets are not blind, they see through the eyes of the angels". since Frank was blinded by a pellet gun in the 80s this seems more poignant. there's something strangely magical about this song and indeed the album of the same name.
the mood of this song is perfect. one of my favorites of all times when i'm feeling blue myself.
i thought simon and garfunkel sang this originally??
No, but they shared a flat with Frank in London and i think Simon produced the album.

it's actually been covered by alot of artists. Paul Simon, The Decemberists, Nick Drake, and Counting Crows off the top of my head (there are probably more)

Graeme Allwright also created a lovely French cover of this song! Check it out!

Corrections:
5th stanza 4th line should be 'Wherever I've thrown them dice'. He repeats 'wherever' at the beginning of lines 3-5 just like in stanzas 1, 4 & 7.
6th stanza should be:
Maybe tomorrow honey Some place down the line I'll wake up older So much older mama I'll wake up older And I'll just stop all my trying
The version posted repeats the 2nd and 3rd lines, which is not how the song goes. This is one of my favorite songs, so it's gotta be right!! Thanks!!
This song reminds me of motels, white sheets, and summer.
