Songs Sound Much Sadder Lyrics

We are smashed men, still moving. We've tried overything in the book.
no stranger to failure, death with a steady heartbeat.
Scratching into any surface it wants.
Joy and beauty rejected so many times.
A world of hurt, a heart of false hope.

While we thought we were learning how to live,
We have been learning how to die.
I should of know, we will be legends.

Our homes and dreams and our worst nightmares.
Our worst nightmares have now come true.

Tonight when this destain falls on men.
Driven by a instinct more powerful than life itself.
From horror to hope to devastation.
Overfed and conserned.
It came with taste and claw.
Oh, hated form of emotion.
You have become so obvious.
My friend, the fatal habit of being myself.
Okay, there's hope. Step down with all your friends.

a great song. i'd say it's about how living life based on the world leads to damnation. "while we thought we were learning how to live, we have been learning how to die" sounds to me like "living" for the pleasures of the world leads to eternal death once we stand before God because the world is full of sin. "the fatal habit of being myself" shows that people are sinful by nature but that "there's hope", through God. i dunno, i could be wrong but it sounds right to me

I agree with the more religious explanations, granted that they are christian metalcore. But I just wantd to throw in a less religious meaning: Perhaps it is speaking of the constant rise in technology, the sapping of the world's resources, the use of children and scientific research (not that kids are literally being used, but there is a certain, metaphoric, crucifixtion of children nowadays) is ultimately going to cause us our downfall. And the line "fatal habit of being myself" refers to mankind's reckless self-improvment, not taking into account long-term consequences, "there's hope..." could refer to humans giving up the ghost that we aren't god. I suppose this is similar to the System of a Down song: Science. To quote: "Science has failed to recognize the single-most important element of human existance: letting the reins go, to the unfolding is faith, faith, faith." Yes, it is religious, but I only said it was LESS religious. Just my 2 cents!

Here's my take

smashed men/tried everything in the book: people like today that party, live risky life

we thought we were learning to live/die: people that partied thought they were having a good time and that this is the way to live, but in all actuality they were killing themselves or filling some void

we will be legends: they do all this crap to be noticed/recognized... because whats the point in being remembered the same as everyone else?

our homes/dream/nightmares: all these things they've done have now caught up to them, for worse.

tonight when this destain/instinct more powerful than life: all these temptations seem so pleasurable to us that we find it hard to resist (promiscuity)

horror/hope/devastation: not too sure about this, my guess is how we are shocked by something in society, then it becomes the norm and eventually helps destroy our morals

hated form of emotion/you have become so obvious: emotion is a sign of being against society, but it is suppressed

fatal habit of being myself: individuals conform to society's mold to be accepted

ok theres hope/step down with all your friends: theres hope, just stop living this lifestyle
