I agree with the more religious explanations, granted that they are christian metalcore. But I just wantd to throw in a less religious meaning: Perhaps it is speaking of the constant rise in technology, the sapping of the world's resources, the use of children and scientific research (not that kids are literally being used, but there is a certain, metaphoric, crucifixtion of children nowadays) is ultimately going to cause us our downfall. And the line "fatal habit of being myself" refers to mankind's reckless self-improvment, not taking into account long-term consequences, "there's hope..." could refer to humans giving up the ghost that we aren't god. I suppose this is similar to the System of a Down song: Science. To quote: "Science has failed to recognize the single-most important element of human existance: letting the reins go, to the unfolding is faith, faith, faith." Yes, it is religious, but I only said it was LESS religious. Just my 2 cents!
