"while we thought we were learning how to live, we have been learning how to die" sounds to me like "living" for the pleasures of the world leads to eternal death once we stand before God because the world is full of sin. "the fatal habit of being myself" shows that people are sinful by nature but that "there's hope", through God. i dunno, i could be wrong but it sounds right to me
