Antarctica Lyrics
Antarctica -- Antarctica
Antarctica -- Antarctica
Ice age is here, right in your town
Antarctica, look what you've done
And I, I feel like I've cheated your scheme
And I, I feel like you really know what I mean
Nightfall's heartbeat, the street's in a mess
On reflection, the beach is endless
And I, I feel like I've cheated your scheme
And I, I feel like I really know what I mean
It's my turn -- it's my turn
Antarctica -- Antarctica
No day, no night, and always the sound
Ice age shelter
It's me that's found
And I, I feel like I'm really part of your scene
And I, I feel like you know what I mean
Pictures moving, and always the whirls
Antarctica, where are you now (Antarctica)
And I, I feel like I'm really part of your scheme
And I, I feel like you're losing your dream
Antarctica -- Antarctica -- Antarctica
It's my turn
Antarctica -- Antarctica
Water's bending all out of shape
Antarctica
I say jump boy before it's too late
And I, I feel like you know what I mean
And I, I feel like I'm lost in your scheme
Antarctica -- Antarctica
Antarctica -- Antarctica
And I, I feel like you know what I mean
And I, I feel like I'm really lost in your scene

I love The Men Without Hats, they don't get nearly as much credit as they deserve. This is one of their best songs.
'antarctica' is a title for personal emotional coldness/numbness, and that of society- hence he says it is 'here, right in your town.' 'cheating the sceme' refers to seeing through the illusion created by mainstream society. 'pictures moving and always the whirls' refers to how this insight was achieved- which was psychedelics. also note with 'ice age shelter- it's me that's found.' - he has found the person he feels is is 'true self' rather than being cold (or totally removed ;) ) or 'trapped under ice'- the metallica song of that name is essentially the same song.
@pookaboots I’m with you on this one. Their lyrics tend to be poetic and not specific. But clearly that opening line, ice age is here right in your town,’ sets it up that he is not literally talking about weather. He’s talking about coldness of spirit, lack of compassion, i think. Of course one of the great things about their lyrics is, they are texture for the music, and not totally clear in their meaning.

I don't think the lyrics really "mean" anything, just some interesting imagery that seems a bit dark, foreboding & uneasy. Yes, one of their better songs.
Global climate change wasn’t yet known in most circles when this song was written. Maybe climate scientists had begun to speculate by that time, but certainly it was not the mainstream consensus.
The time the song was written we were all paranoid about nuclear war (see also Pop Goes the World). Antarctica is probably both a more general notion of emotional coldness. But also could be a reference to ‘nuclear winter’ which would occur after a major nuclear war.
On the surface, it is about a person wandering lost in a snow storm. But the implication is that this is a post-apocalyptic ice age brought on by global warming. Humanity tried to cheat nature's scheme and now its our turn to be at the mercy of the elements.
