It makes you wonder just who they really are
They say money is no object and we've got a car
They kidnapped Tony where did they go
They went to get it done before he got too old

They're incognito, they're into fame
They think they know it all you know their family's to blame
Isn't it funny, isn't it sad
You come up empty thinking bout the good times that you had

But...
I like, when they talk really loud trying to tell you what they know
I like, when it blows real hard and it doesn't even show
They say: It's plain to see, life is not a mystery to me

I say: That's plain as day I hope you've got yours right anyway
They say: It's plain to see, life is not a mystery to me
I say: That's plain as day I hope you've got yours right anyway
It makes you wonder 'bout the things they say

We are never gonna leave, we are never gonna stay
They talk for nothing, they talk for free
They talk behind your back and to you're face they're really sweet
Check out the language, check out the clothes

Their mother buys them shoes 'n where she get's them no-one knows
They go to parties to steal the show
By talking really loud 'n try to tell you what they know

I like when they talk really loud trying to tell you what they know

Say, I like when it blows real hard and it doesn't even show
Say, I like when they haven't seen a thing and try to tell you where to go
Say, I like when they talk really loud trying to tell you what they know
What do they really know?

A really good song, certainly better than The Safety Dance, in terms of lyrical content. Clearly talking about the population of Superficial People and their cliques.

A really underated song. I love the men without hats, they deserve way more credit

I live in Montreal and in music class we have to pick a band from quebec to do a critique on, and judging from this song, I think I'll choose Men Without Hats. I am often repelled by french music despite living in a french province, so I looked for english bands. Then I came upon them - "Safety Dance" was already one of my favorites, but I never knew until now that they're from Montreal! I live in Laval, the island over Montreal. I'm proud to be born in a region sitting right next to the place where Men Without Hats originated =D

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
