Song for Luna Lyrics

Summer,
It's been three years since I last saw
that loneyly smile
Bound to be a thousand more
'till I can find
a face I loved as much as yours
mi hermosa

Never
would have thought you'd catch my eye
across the room
Broken English, a goodbye
that came too soon
Who needs words when you reply
con su cuerpo?

I've been stuck
on your foreign eyes
They have struck for better boy
We put your lives on our shoulders
but these arms are too weak to hold us

Dreaming
'bout some drunken melody
you sung before
Verses beautiful and strange
I love that song
I am strong beneath the fold
of all that flies

Haven't found all that I'm looking for
Lost your ghost somewhere in Samana
I run my fingers across windows to trace
all the outlines that make up your face
Haven't found all that I'm looking for
Lost your ghost somewhere in Samana
Try and try there's no use to pretend,
all I want is to see you again

Sing into the moonlight
Who could ask for more?

sometimes i think this entire album was written about me. This song in particular. It's been 3 years since my girlfriend and I broke up and I can never get over her. Anyway, incredible song.

"mi hermosa" means "my beautiful", "con su cuerpo" means "with your body".

he meets a girl who speaks broken english, probably a hispanic chick. "Who needs words when you reply con su cuerpo?", who needs words when you reply with your body? I assume he means that they didn't need to communicate much since they had a chiefly sexual relationship.

So essentially this song is about some hispanic girl this guy lost. they didn't have a good relationship, it was mostly sexual and he's regretting losing her.

"Dreaming 'bout some drunken melody you sung before Verses beautiful and strange I love that song"

maybe the girl got drunk and sang in spanish, and he's remembering that moment.

In the chorus, when is says that her "foreign eyes have struck for better boy", it could mean that the girl left him for someone better.

"Lost your ghost somewhere in Samana": Samana is a province in the Domincan Republic.

I was thinking, the name of the girl could be Luna. Makes sense since the name of the song is "Song For Luna". Luna is spanish for Moon. The last lines "sing into the moonlight" is probably him just being poetic about her name.

I am in love with this song. It's incredibly deep I can feel his pain through the way he sings. I can really relate to this song because I once also lost a foreign lover. And all I ever wanted was to see him again..

no i dont think it was an actual relationship at all, i think it sounds like hes had a passionate physical relationship one weekend with an amazing, wild, hispanic girl who, all he can remember about is how beautiful she was and how romantic and passionate the encounter was. he doesnt even know her name. he sounds like hes at a festival or something similar to schoolies etc

it really reminds me of the song "young love" by the mystery jets, some of the lyrics from that song are;

one night of love, nothing more, nothing less, one night of love that left my heart in a mess

it was purely physical but totally magical, and it sounds awesome i love this song so much :)

My Interpretation

I've always heard "singing to the moonlight" instead of "sing into the moonlight"

This references her name (as Luna is Spanish for moon) and is really quite a beautiful concept. It is particularly poignant when combined with the sudden change in dynamics at the end of the bridge.

What a completely amazing song this is.

This is an amazing song. And anybody who's been with a latina can definitely relate.

Or a latino! This song gets me.

I've been broken-up with my Hispanic girlfriend for a little more than 3 years now, how eerily specific! Anyway, I love the salsa rhythm in this song and the outro.
