Youth and Tear Gas Lyrics

And I was burnin' like a forest fire
Yeah, I was burning like gasoline, lit
When I heard the things you said
Drown out the things you did
than I thought of your neck,
thought of your beautiful eyes
While the police gas suffocated our lungs
but not our insides
and than that protest sign
it came to my mind
when we were young we never could have known that,
never could have known that
this world would be so cold
Set up; knock down our souls
Our innocense would be forever stole

I get a different perspective on the song. In my mind, it connects the two things young activists think about the most (or myself at least). It connects politics and love.

It kind of sets a picture. A couple is at a protest when the police sets of tear gas into the crowd. The guy looks at his girlfriend are realizes just how beautiful she is, espically in such a cruel world that would treat the innocent in such a hard way.

He basically has two major realizations while being tear gased with his girlfriend by his side. 1)He realizes that he loves her 2)He realizes just how cold this world can be

Basically because of these realizations, "Our innocence would be forever stole." When you are young, you are so carefree and are loving life but once you experience the cruelty this world just loves to give out, you are not so young anymore; you are not so innocent anymore.

I really like the line where it goes "While the police gas suffocated our lungs but not our insides." It really shows that no matter what the police do and no matter how hard the police try, they can never take our souls and they can never take our hearts.

Anyway, that is my take on the song but i could easily be wrong.
