The track is about self-deception and one's struggle to maintain a facade of normalcy amidst personal turmoil; Hiding the pain and mental troubles behind a mask of sanity and composure. Insistence on telling others that everything is fine ends up becoming a form of self-deception, as they attempt to convince themselves of their own mental stability. Back then and even now, it's a common human experience, putting on a brave face while battling inner demons, one we can never be separated from.
