Caroline #1 Lyrics

Sweet Caroline, how great though art
Wear my ring around your neck
With a big honk of love
Don't be cruel you gotta treat me nice
I just can't help believin'
I got suspecious minds

(Chorus)
Well, such a night it is
You the devil in disguise
Who am I it's midnight, I'm leaving
Rubberneckin I've got a thing about you, babe
A hundred years from now roll on

Sweet Caroline one night with you
At heartbreak motel
We'll make the world go away
If you talk in your sleep it ain't no big thing
We can make the morning
The impossible dream

(Chorus)

Sweet Caroline bum bumb bum bumb bum bum
How great thou art
Wear my ring around your neck
With a big honk of love
If you talk in your sleep it ain't no big thing
We can make the morning
The impossible dream

(Chorus)

So, Michael Poulsen announced on their Youtube channel that the song doesn't have a meaning besides the fact that the lyrics to the song are other songs titles, primarily Elvis songs.

However, I love this song so much, and I feel like it was arranged in such a way that anyone could come up with their own meaning, so that's what I've done.

I believe that this song is about a guy who's with a girl, whom he can't escape. She's most likely crazy, as he calls her "the devil in disguise." However, this guy still loves her, even though she risks the relationship, and sometimes his life.

"if you talk in your sleep, that ain't no big thing," could refer to the fact that he knows that she loves and hates him; trying to stay away from her while also being with her.

"I've got a suspicious mind" is him saying that he knows the danger that is being with her. "Who am I, it's midnight I'm leaving" could mean that he realizes just how dangerous she is, and how he needs to get away as fast as physically possible for his own safety. "Don't be cruel, you've got to treat me nice" goes well with this.

"Rubberneckin I've got a thing about you, babe" could refer to how she watches the relationship ship fail due to her activities, messing up the love. "A hundred years from now roll on" could mean that their love could last a hundred years, while roll on means the opposite.

The entirety of the second verse could imply that he only needs one night with her at the Heartbreak Motel (possibly the place they met) so he can convince her to love him again, and to keep the relationship, and his sanity together, with a bit of persuading. "the impossible dream" is their love lasting forever, which is what he wants to make actually happen.

"Wear my ring around your neck" could refer to a necklace of some sort to show that she's his, forever and ever.

Overall, I believe this is a story of craziness and love, as well as a relationship that needs some fixing. He's trying to love her and keep her as his own with losing his life due to her.

This is one of my favorite songs from Volbeat and I'm so happy to be finally posting my recreation of the story. Of course, this is just my imagination and my take on the song, but I think it fits pretty well. I'll probably do some more in the future, but for now, this is my first song meaning and I hope you enjoyed it and share your own take on the song or other songs! Cheers!

This song explores themes of love, desire, and the complexities of human connection through combining various Elvis Presley song titles and lyrics to create a story about a passionate but tumultuous relationship. The use of referring to iconic Elvis songs helps evoke feelings of nostalgia and longing, while also being a tribute to one of the band's many Western influences. The track paints a picture that love is passionate, chaotic, and filled with conflicting emotions. Despite its difficulties and uncertainties, an underlying desire for the relationship to endure is buried deep within.

The songs referenced throughout are "Sweet Caroline," a famous Neil Diamond song, "How Great Thou Art," "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck," "A Big Hunk o' Love," "Suspicious Minds," "Such a Night," "Devil in Disguise," "Midnight," "Rubberneckin'," "Heartbreak Hotel," Eddy Arnold's song "Make the World Go Away," "If You Talk in Your Sleep," "That's the Way It Is" and the Broadway musical "Man of La Mancha," and "Stranger in My Own Hometown."
