Americans Abroad Lyrics
Golden arches rising above the next overpass
These horizons are endless
We're Americans abroad
We're Americans abroad
Profit-driven expansion into Ford markets
And while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
Said while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
This is the best summer that I've ever had
European vacation, me and my best friends
We're Americans abroad
We're Americans abroad
Whatever needs to be said, say it in English
And while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
Said while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
Here we are, a rock band looking for new audiences
Wherever we go, Coca-Cola's already been
We're Americans abroad
We're Americans abroad
And I just can't help but think that there's nothing in sight
And while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
Said while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
These horizons are endless
We're Americans abroad
We're Americans abroad
Profit-driven expansion into Ford markets
And while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
Said while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
European vacation, me and my best friends
We're Americans abroad
We're Americans abroad
Whatever needs to be said, say it in English
And while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
Said while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
Wherever we go, Coca-Cola's already been
We're Americans abroad
We're Americans abroad
And I just can't help but think that there's nothing in sight
And while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure
Said while I hope I'm not like them
I'm not so sure

I think its about the band touring the world, and everywhere being commercialized and it feels like 'america-town' everywhere they go.
This is about about how Against Me!'s true intentions (a rock band looking for new audiences) aren't considered, because they're Americans abroad and hence commercializing imperialists. It is also a continuation of the idea presented in Former Clarity, with Gabel saying that he hopes he's not like them (McDonalds, Coca-Cola, etc.) but he's not so sure.
for the part you left (-------------------) its my favorite line its say "what ever needs to be said say it in english" its totally showing how a lot of americans are just consumer ass holes and sometimes its hard to tell if your not just like them

i think nowah is right, but felixa has a point too, i think they wrote the song meaning both ways
I think this is about how as the band accepts deals from major labels and becomes bigger and bigger, and eventually tours the world, Gabel fears becoming everything he has always hated: an abrasive, ignorant, consumer whore, part of a commercialized system that sells bands as a product instead of promoting their message.
As a European I can tell you exactly what the opinion is, and what he supposedly means.
Americans always stick out like sore thumbs as travellers in Europe. I think its more down to personal interaction and image than commercialisation and consumer imperialism
"what ever needs to be said is said in english" - Would you as an American attempt the local language when approaching someone in a foreign country for help? How would you feel if someone speaks to you in German or French in America? You'll think what an idiot, you're in America? I would speak English when in America or the UK and would expect the same for ppl in my country
Americans rarely attempt to experience the local culture and would rather head to the nearest Macdonald's or KFC which makes them seem uncultured.
I believe it's "Profit-driven expansion into 'foreign' markets." Could be wrong but that's what I hear.
