Paper Jesus Lyrics

You take this all for granted.
All the things that used to be you.
By keeping you distracted
Just long enough to bleed you... dry

[Chorus]
A reason for your anger,
It's what I need, it's what I need.
To recognize the truth,
It's what I need, it's what I need.
So burn your paper Jesus,
It's what I need, it's what I need,
And all the things you do,
It's what I need, it's what I need.

Question what they tell you
All the lies that they are teaching,
And they've made a corporation
Out of desperate people's feelings... of fear.

[Chorus]

Somebody chose these words for you.
Interpretations of the truth.
Somewhere behind your fear they hide.
To fill the holes inside.

[Chorus]

Well I think its stupid that people thought it was offensive. Anyways, as I said on the last set of lyrics, this song has nothing to do with Jesus or religion. The term "Paper Jesus" is metaphor to money. The song is about people desperately wanting money and power. By the way these lyrics are wrong:

You take this all for granted All the things they choose to feed you By keeping you distracted Just long enough to bleed you... dry

Chorus A reason for your anger, Its what I need, Its what I need To recognize the truth, Its what I need, Its what I need So burn your Paper Jesus, Its what I need, Its what I need And own the things you do, Its what I need, Its what I need

Question what they sell you All the lies that they are teaching Can they pay the corporations All the desperate people stealing... fear

Chorus

Somebody chose theese words for you Interpretations of the truth Somewhere behind your fear they hide To fill the holes inside

Chorus

Those are the correct lyrics

@dmk89 - Of course it has to do with religion. How could "they've made a corporation out of desperate people's feelings of fear" and "somebody chose these words for you - interpretations of the truth. Somewhere behind your fear they hide, to fill the holes inside" possibly be referring to money? Or really to anything other than some abusive authoritarian institution (of which, let's face it, religious institutions are the uncontested epitome.)

"Paper Jesus" is more than likely a reference to the biblical version of Jesus, which can't be trusted as valid because it's been censured by religious authorities so many times.

(AKA "Jesus on Paper.")

The song is about how people have substituted materialism (and money, and free thinking) for religion. Western citizens did voluntarily what the communist governments did at the point of a gun.

What Happened to these lyrics. One day i look and they're there. The next they're not.

Some people complained it was offensive to christians and was deleted - that's right wing fundamentalist religious extremism for you. GW's america. Scary.

WTF. This has nothing to do with religion. Jesus seems like a cool guy but his fan club sucks sometimes

If you listen to the 2nd verse...it says it all. I believe this song is about how people are actually beginning to question what religions are saying to them. Also, many religions have always asked for donations from the "desperate people's feelings" in order to prosper above the other religions around the world. And then if you think about it, you begin to realize that all of these people's insecurities have been "healed" by stories written in a book that millions believe in, when actually these very same people put up with the very same bullsh*t that everyone endures in everyday life-no one lives without stress. And furthermore...what has caused the most wars in the world's history...(give up?)...religion!!! CASE CLOSED!!!!

In this song i believe that Aaron is speaking out against "organized" religion, not just religion, he believes that he does not have to go to church every sunday or even at all, and that he can worship god in his own way.

My Interpretation of the lyrics:

You take this all for granted All the things they choose to feed you. By keeping you distracted Just long enough to bleed you... dry.

(you accept without question, whatever the church preaches to you. the church distracts you by making you feel like you are a bad person so you give them money so you think your a better person)

A reason for your anger It's what I need It's what I need To recognize the truth It's what I need It's what I need So burn your paper Jesus It's what I need It's what I need And own the things you do It's what I need It's what I need

-I am not satisfied with what i think about the chorus so I will have to think about it some more-

(He needs all these things obviously, so he wants a reason why people are mad, at others about their belifes, maybe. He needs to recognize the truth about religion. burn your paper jesus is a reference to money. thats the one thing i am sure of in the chorus)

Question what they sell you All the lies that they are teaching And they've made a corporation Out of desperate people's feelings... of fear.

(you should question what the church is trying to tell you as they lie alot, and they have made a corporation, any group of persons united or regarded as united in one body, out of people fearing life after death, or hell even.)

A reason for your anger It's what I need It's what I need To recognize the truth It's what I need It's what I need So burn your paper Jesus It's what I need It's what I need And own the things you do It's what I need It's what I need

Somebody chose these words for you, Interpretations of the truth. Somewhere behind your fear they hide To fill the holes inside.

(someone chose what you are saying, maybe pushing religion on others. the bible has been interpretated alot so who knows what really happend, this is just what they think is the truth. they hide behind your fear, again with the fear of life after death, some people feel an emptiness inside without religion.)

A reason for your anger It's what I need It's what I need To recognize the truth It's what I need It's what I need So burn your paper Jesus It's what I need It's what I need And own the things you do It's what I need It's what I need

APCObsession. Was the II world war religious war? I don't think so. Maybe Vietnam war or American Civil War? So I don't understand what's your problem. If someone whants to make war, he will do that for any stupid reason. And about the song- I hope it's not antireligious.People around the world have a lot other problems than considering if priest lies or not. If faith gives them hope is it bad?

To me, in this song, "Paper Jesus" can refer to ANYTHING that you look at as a "savior," or as something great, and it's really not. Money, another person, anything like that.

But that's just my two cents. Either way, it's a great song.
