Still...You Turn Me On Lyrics
Do you want to be an angel,
Do you wanna be an angel
Do you wanna be a star
Do you wanna play some magic
On my guitar
Do you wanna be a poet
Do you wanna be my string
You could be anything
Do you wanna be the lover of another undercover
You could even be the
Man on the moon
Do you wanna be the player
Do you wanna be the string
Let me tell you something
It just don't mean a thing
You see it really doesn't matter
When you're buried in disguise
By the dark glass on your eyes
Though your flesh has crystallised
Still...you turn me on
Do you wanna be the pillow
Where I lay my head
Do you wanna be the feathers
Lying on my bed
Do you wanna be the cover
Of a magazine
Create a scene
Every day a little sadder
A little madder
Someone get me a ladder
Do you wanna be the singer
Do you wanna be the song
Let me tell you something
You just couldn't be more wrong
You see I really have to tell you
That it all gets so intense
From my experience
It just doesn't seem to make sense
Still...you turn me on
Do you wanna be an angel
Do you wanna be a star
Do you wanna play some magic
On my guitar
Do you wanna be a poet
Do you wanna be my string
You could be anything
You could even be the
Man on the moon
Do you wanna be the string
Let me tell you something
It just don't mean a thing
When you're buried in disguise
By the dark glass on your eyes
Though your flesh has crystallised
Still...you turn me on
Where I lay my head
Do you wanna be the feathers

Do you wanna be the cover

Someone get me a ladder
Do you wanna be the song
Let me tell you something

Isn't it obvious? Lake's singing about his rock and roll lifestyle, having to hide/disguise himself in public and how the audience shouldn't want his livestyle. Every day on the road make him more more depressed (sadder) and more crazy (madder), he jokes "get me a ladder" (so I can hang myself). But... he keeps doing it because the "high" he gets from playing in front of the live audience keeps him going; i.e. "Still, you turn me on." "YOU" is his audience...
He's asking them "so you want to be a singer, songwriter, poet, musican, hang out with me, be my girlfriend, be on magazine covers, i.e. live my life?" "Let me tell you something, It just don't mean a thing". i.e. This lifestyle sucks.
These lines are Lake telling the audience about aspects of his crazy rock star lifestyle: You see it really doesn't matter when you're buried in disguise by the dark glass on your eyes, though your flesh has crystallised. Every day a little sadder, A little madder, Someone get me a ladder. You see I really have to tell you That it all gets so intense, From my experience. It just doesn't seem to make sense.
It's not really obvious to me, but I really like your explanation - makes a lot of sense.

basically, you could be anything but what's the point? you are buried in disguise... your life is a lie... your flesh has crystallised... you are not human anymore... but even though you still turn me on :) and then "You see I really have to tell you That it all gets so intense From my experience It just doesn't seem to make sense"

I think the ladder lyrics are cool.
"Everyday a little sadder a little madder, someone get me a ladder" and get me out of here!!

To me, the song is dedicated to my dead husband. Every sentence in the song that refers to being something, like an angel, or a string, or even "the man on the moon" can be him in my heart and memory, still part of my life. When I lay on my pillow or in my bed, he is still with me. And even through he has the dark glass on his eyes, because he no longer lives and his eyes are dark, and his flesh is crystalizing in the grave, still he turns me on in my memory. And every day I am a little sadder and madder because as each day goes by, the time between now and the last time I saw him alive is getting wider and wider, the space grows and it is sad and maddening. So please, someone get me a ladder so that I can try and reach him in Heaven, and this experience is so intense, and his death does not make sense, still he turns me on......in my memory of him. That's my personal interpretation. The song touches my soul and my inner being more than I can ever share in words. Thanks for listening (reading). RIP my sweet Paulie!
One of my favorite songs from long ago. Used to fall asleep to this song
Can't believe nobody has commented on this. This is a totally beautiful song. Just about perfect (except for the ladder rhyme).

Exactly! After 40 years in showbiz, the ladder rhyme makes no sense anymore. Heading 70 and weighing 50 pounds to much, Greg should rewrite the song, singing: "Every day a little sadder, a little madder, a little fatter. :-p

Most every thing said here is off the target a bit. But some of it is close

I always thought this was a love song. Him saying it doesn’t matter what you do what you say what you are. You are soul and it never changes. You can be anything, you can be the light you can be the darkness. You can go mad you can drive me mad. You can be life you can be death. But in the end no matter what you turn me on. You are eternal and you are hope. It’s not necessarily a person it’s more about spirit about hope about love. But I like to think of it as a love song. I would love to have someone sing this to me. Light and darkness are one but light always wins out. Hope is the path love is the answer.
Wow. I wrote that 14 years ago. I still believe that is what Greg was spaeking to; and wow... my password still works!
Buried in disguise" with "dark glass" on your eyes is a reference to rock stars having to hide when going out in public, Flesh has crystalized, he has become numb to it all. But when he gets on stage, "still" the sea of fans turn him on. Rest in Peace, Greg, BTW...
