In Terms Of Love Lyrics

Now and then I confess you cross my mind
Now and then I guess I have a little too much time
I've changed my way of thinking
I've tried hard to separate what came too soon
From what came too late

[Chorus]
I don't think about me in terms of you
I don't think about you in terms of us
I don't think about us in terms of love
I don't think about then in terms of now
I found a way to start again somehow
I don't think about what we thought it was
Oh, in terms of love
Oh, in terms of love

I'm countin' on heaven to understand
I didn't mean to and mess up all the plans
Sometimes you know where you sould go
Before you know the way
I'll bother with tomorrow
Once I made it through today

[Chorus]
I don't think about me in terms of you
I don't think about you in terms of us
I don't think about us in terms of love
I don't think about then in terms of now
I found a way to start again somehow
I don't think about what we thought it was
Oh, in terms of love
Mmmm, hummm, yeah

I don't think about black in terms of gray
Or revelations in the light of day
I don't think about cold in terms of ice
Or second chances happenin' twice

[Chorus]
I don't think about me in terms of you
I don't think about you in terms of us
I don't think about us in terms of love
I don't think about then in terms of now
I found away to start again somehow
I don't think about what we thought it was
Oh, in terms of love

(I don't think about me in terms of you)
(I don't think about you in terms of us)
In terms of love

(I don't think about then in terms of now)
(I found a way to start again somehow)
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
I don't think about us in terms of love

I think its pretty easy....its a woman who is admitting to thinking about an ex, but then she goes on to explain how she doesn't think of him. She doesn't see herself in him, she doesn't see him in each other, and she doesn't see them in love. She's motivating herself to move on.

Should read "I'm countin' on heaven to understand I didn't mean to go and mess up all the plans. Sometimes you know where you should go Before you know the way. I'll bother with tomorrow Once I've made it through today."

I think this is more about telling her ex that she HAS moved on, the ties are severed.

I think she sees her past relationship as a sham: that it wasn't about love (what we thought it was is not love). She started out in the relationship, believing that it was good and right (heaven's plans), but has come to understand that although she had a good image for the relationship, she had no idea how to get there, how to make the relationship work (sometimes you know where you should go before you know the way). She poured herself into the relationship, and got nothing back (cold isn't just ice). That he did something wrong (maybe cheated?) and she gave him "second" chance after chance (second chances happening twice), made excuses for him (black being gray), but she isn't going to do that any more.

I think she is recognizing and learning to forgive herself for her mistakes, and that she wasn't the only one who ruined the relationship. She's thought about went wrong, sorted through what she did and didn't do, and has gotten to the point where she doesn't think of them as having anything to do with each other any more. She no longer defines herself, her hopes and dreams, in terms of what he wants. She has her own two feet under her again, and doesn't need him to feel complete.
