A Lesson In Charades Lyrics
Don’t bite your lip to hold back your smile
Just think of this
As bending the rules
You’re walking a thin line
Between me and what’s right
This thread seems worn and frayed
Don’t hide your face
And cower behind
A wall made up
Of secrets and lies
You can put it all on me
But if this is what’s been wrong
Then why is your hand in mine?
One moment at a time
With nothing but your eyes
You make me scream
Stop and let me breathe
Regretting our first kiss
Taste the poison on your lips
Bloody and sweet
Stop and let me breathe.
This room is too cold to hold back your tears
And your heart is too weak to wear on your sleeve
If I’d allow myself to feel
The things I know I should
Then I might not be standing here
One moment at a time
With nothing but your eyes
You make me scream
Stop and let me breathe
Regretting our first kiss
Taste the poison on your lips
Bloody and sweet
Stop and let me breathe.
Oh god this poison’s spreading
Can’t feel the ground beneath my feet
My hands won’t stop shaking
My legs are crippled from defeat
My vision’s getting blurry
My heart is breaking as you speak
Won’t you listen to me?
To me
To me
One moment at a time
With nothing but your eyes
You make me scream
Stop and let me breathe
Regretting our first kiss
Taste the poison on your lips
Bloody and sweet
Stop and let me breathe.
Just think of this
As bending the rules
You’re walking a thin line

love this song
Beautiful. Why aren't there more comments on this song!?
i just got into this band and i have found that their songs are very deep and the lyrics speak to me
i think this song is about how a guy and a girl weren't really meant to be, but they "bent the rules." i think the girl was too scared to get her heart broken, because she wore it on her sleeve. and he was confused because she was still with him, but now that she's gone, he's regretting for ever loving her
the way i see it is... theres person singing it.. lets say its a guy. and he likes this girl.. but hes totally wrong for her and he knows it. and they're "bending the rules" to be together. && the girl is feeling guilty and he cant tell. and he says "stop and let me breath" because hes being smothered with guilt and worry. and her heart is weak from being worn on her sleeve because she likes him so much but knows she cant have him.
i just found this band on purevolume.com and i'm starting to love them already. this song really speaks to me and i found the lyrics real deep and sweet. for some reason there's a whole verse left out, it comes just before this part; "This room is too cold to hold back your tears And your heart is too weak to wear on your sleeve If I’d allow myself to feel The things I know I should Then I might not be standing here" and goes like this; "my mind is busy trying to sort through your words, or let the other ones in that i want to hear. and rip my heart up piece by piece, to show you how i feel, if i thought that you'd even care". all in all, frickin' awesome tune.
actually there are two versions of this song. the lyrics that you found are from the version on the album "A Lesson in Charades". most people don't know this version and therefore only hear the one that comes off of the album after that, "Slip Into Something More Comfortable"

honestly, i couldn't tell you what it means word for word. but it's an amazing song by an amazing band. this song is probably one of my favorites off the CD. and it's so mind-grabbing it's addicting. i love it.
I think this song is about a girl that is seeing someone who isn't the person she's dating, and how perfect they feel, and then he asks her to finally be with him, and she can't and she won't. and he regrets her.
fuck, i love the last verse. I can really relate to it. He is obviously having a really bad trip. But he's saying that the girl he is talking to tastes bloody and sweet. He means that they would probably lick their cutts or cutt their lips which made their mouths bloody while they made out and the poison's alcahol you should try making out with your boyfriend with blood it's so hott if your a cutter do it.
ok well first of all, that's a really disturbing comment that weniseeyersmile just left.. please save the cutting for the bathroom.
"Don’t bite your lip to hold back your smile Just think of this As bending the rules You’re walking a thin line Between me and what’s right This thread seems worn and frayed Don’t hide your face And cower behind A wall made up Of secrets and lies You can put it all on me But if this is what’s been wrong Then why is your hand in mine?" ^ I think that this girl is dating someone else, but is seeing this guy behind his back. She knows that it's wrong but it feels so right. When he says "you can put it all on me" I think he means that she can put the blame from her boyfriend on him.
The chorus, I can't really explain ... It's kind of puzzling me. Maybe he needs breathing space to take this all in .. I'm not quite sure, maybe you guys could help me on that one.
"If I’d allow myself to feel The things I know I should Then I might not be standing here" ^ he's saying how if he allowed himself to love without going behind someone's back, he might not be in this situation. Obviously his relationship with this girl isn't working out ..
"Oh god this poison’s spreading Can’t feel the ground beneath my feet My hands won’t stop shaking My legs are crippled from defeat My vision’s getting blurry My heart is breaking as you speak Won’t you listen to me? To me To me" ^ Maybe he's trying to explain what he feels like to the girl, but she isn't taking it well and doesn't know what to do, which leaves him confused as to where this relationship is going ..
... God, I wish this wasn't the story of my life
