Bring Me Back A Dog Lyrics

From the fall I hold the word conviction
And the thrill to the swell is in your golden touch
But the flesh is weak and without reason
So I slave to your beat and soul for all time

God give a little love
Bring me back a dog in the next life
God give a little love
Wanna be a dog in the next life

When you strike with soul and quick precision
I'm snagged by a nervous twitch and cold desire
But they say the wretched get their kingdom
Breathe on, it's my time, let's go, we all die

God give a little love
Bring me back a dog in the next life
God give a little love
Wanna be a dog in the next life

The trouble is me, you
The trouble is me, you
Oh, the trouble is me, you
The trouble is me, you

God give a little love
Bring me back a dog in the next life
God give a little love
Wanna be a dog in the next life

I agree, it's amazing live but... the refrain is so stupid

i think he's messing with the meaning of god and dog... it just sounds a lil silly cause of the severity of the rest of his work.. well not severity but you know what i mean... just a different type of song i suppose.

I think this song has a deeper metaphoric message than what it is given credit. From what I gather he is saying that the JOB like affects that "GOD" or a relationship have on your life throughout hurt you so bad and break you down that if you were to be reincarnated as something it should be something that is easily taken care of and loved, such as a dog. Please show some mercy and make me a dog in the next life. To tell the truth, I would love to come back as any of my family's or ex's pets in another life. I would probably be in a better situation.

The most obvious interpratation seems to be that it's about s&m... a submissiva man taking punishment as mistress'es dog...

this is the best song from the alternative. i dunno, maybe i'm strange... first of all if i think IAMX is atheist or at least doubts in god's existance - so the line 'God give a little love' is a bit ironic. Second thing-haven't you ever hated your life so much, haven't you felt is so pointless that you wish you were something else? for example a dog? something who/what doesn't think or think more simple than human?

This one is definitely about S&M, being a dog i.e. slave, and submitting to someone that dominates him. The first verse, especially gives it away, he describes how he finds pleasure in the touch, but needs control because his "flesh is weak and without reason". Great song!

I think that in this song he is basically saying that he wants to be brought back a dog because think of all the love and attention dogs get! The lyrics "God give a little love Bring me back a dog in the next life." Maybe he was having a hard time when he wrote this song, maybe him and Sue had a falling out?? And he wants to be loved.

\It's long comment\ I'm not a native English speaker, but I did some work to understand this lyric.. and this is how I get it. If estimate this lyric superficially it's definitely about S&M, but I believe that It has more deep meaning, 'cause Chris is so intelligent and thinking man, you know.

I think it's about religion. Yes, I know that Corner is not a believer. I'll try to explain:

"From the fall I hold the word conviction And the thrill to the swell is in your golden touch"- it's about, how people believe in everything that is in bible and pastors' speeches, that words keeps them from the fall into sin ( they think so), and they are thrilled in religious ecstasy, they feel god's touch. "But the flesh is weak and without reason So I slave to your beat and soul for all time" - it's about parting human beings on soul and body, flesh is weak, it's "bad", flesh makes sins, flesh is needed to be punished. And therefore they slave souls to divine serving. Refrain is some kind of satirizing of dumb and immeasurable worship.

"When you strike with soul and quick precision I'm snagged by a nervous twitch and cold desire" pastors can turn the person into nervous believing by one straight phrase with right intonations and gestures, its like a hit in sore spot. Religion actually is a set of such kind of kicks.

"But they say the wretched get their kingdom Breathe on, it's my time, let's go, we all die" - about heaven and paradise, we all die and go to heaven but while we're alive we stay in wrecheds kingdom. It's like "Hey, people life is nothing, let's prepare to the trip to other world"

"The trouble is me, you The trouble is me, you Oh, the trouble is me, you The trouble is me, you" - dialog with "god" who is right, live person with all shit inside or some holy substance?

we could make a lot of suggestions about meaning but we won't get it till Mr Corner tell us everything in straight phrases.
