The Idea of You Lyrics
I'm sitting on my front step
Waiting for you to walk by with your friends
You look up at me the lights form
Smile sweet that made me skin
Jump out all that the way you do
It's like no feeling I could express
Oh sitting up here oh this little kid
You look like an angel
I fall so hard inside the idea of you
That's why with you can't say what I mean
Wanna stay but I think I'm getting outta here
I fall so hard inside the idea of you
I stumble falling
Front of you and all your cool friends
You pick me up you brush me off I grin
But you know I wanna disappear
One day when you fall for me girl
You know I know it's gonna come
I'm not gonna brush you off no way
And I'm not gonna pull your hair
I fall so hard inside the idea of you
That's why with you can't say what I mean
Wanna stay but I think I'm getting outta here
I fall so hard inside the idea of you
Oh yeah
It's something
It's a game I play
Inside myself
But you goin'
But you watching me
Knowing til myself oh I playing
Like you're sitting there
And you hold my
Til I fall asleep
And I wake up
And I find out
You're gone gone gone yeah
I fall so hard inside the idea of you
That's why with you can't say what I mean
Wanna stay but I think I'm getting outta here
I fall so hard inside the idea of you
I stumble falling
Front of you and all your cool friends
You pick me up you brush me off I grin
But all I wanna do is disappear
One day when you fall for me babe
I know it's gonna come and then
I'm not gonna brush you off no way
And I'm not gonna kick you in your shin
Waiting for you to walk by with your friends
You look up at me the lights form
Smile sweet that made me skin
Jump out all that the way you do

I like this version. He's said some pretty sketchy things, though (in other versions this tour):
"I'm too old to be sitting here, but I'm not going to pull your hair."
"Wish I could clean out my head. / What if you could read what's inside my head, you'd run screaming away... but I'm no danger my friend."
"Wish we lived long, long ago, so I'd get away with loving you this much."
Sounds like a pedophile.
@greenmile 'Crash into Me' is beautiful music, but sounds pedophile to me too. I think the written words are different than the spoken/sang words

green mile, this song is not about dave being a child molestor. Its more about an older man who has never experienced love before. He sees a woman and watches her at the bus stop and wonders what it would be like to love her. Since he has never experienced love, he resorts to childlike signs of emotion such as pulling her hair etc.. you've got me feeling like a kid
Dave has finalized the lyrics to this song, now from the point of view from him as a child having a crush on his babysitter.
Earlier version from '06 are clearly from the point of view of an older man having a crush on a much younger girl.
In fact, in Dave's description in his past two shows about it being about his babysitter, he's said... "It all came true", and "Who would've known".
Take that with the current lyric, "One day you're gonna fall for me.", tells me that he's saying "who would've known" that it finally came true. His dream came true. The young babysitter finally has the crush on HIM. But guess what, he's 40 years old now, and it's pretty creepy having a crush on a teenager when you're 40.
So, you can see that although the perspective of the song has changed, it's basically about the same thing. Dave trying to deal with the little girls that are falling for him now. He still has the crush of his childhood, where the infatuation began.
But come on, he's a rockstar, give him a break.
amazing song.. reminds me of crash or dream girl, an obsession of a woman, worshipping of a woman... very good lyrics! this is just one of the many versions of this song. it was played at post gazette pavilion on 6/10/06
What's the point of putting this lyric up? The song isn't finished yet. The words will change until they're finalized.
A better place for these would be this site: http://dmbalmanac.com/
he played this the first time at one of my shows in indi...i was very pleased and i still am convinced the two nights in noblesville this tour should be made into an album because its the best ive ever seen dave...i cant wait when i see him again in two more days!
I am seeing dave play at Tinly Park this Friday and I hope that he plays this song.. Definatly one of his best songs
This is good song. DMB didn't play it in Maryland Hts (the first show of the tour). tbsbrandnewdcjew, why don't you just download your concert, im sure you can find it online somewhere.
i did download all my shows from this summer but the sound quality is never as good as a produced album.
once again another Dave song involving total infatuation. his best lyrical works revolve around this subject. i love this song and i love how he changed the lyrics even throughout the tour. if the up and coming dave album(there will be one mark my words) has works of this caliber i think we'll be seeing a revival of 90's dave matthews.
