i think this song is about a person who would feel better in life if they had a helicopter.
It is not about wanting expensive things...It's about wanting to have her but that is so impossible that he might just as well be asking for a helicopter or an oceanliner, because his chances are the same...
I think it's about a guy, the singer, whose had his heart broken. And this makes him cranky, grumpy, he turns his back on the world. He's so grumpy he gets worked up about the little things: "my piano's out of tune" "this telephone's out of use". And he doesn't think straight. His heart is broken and he wants everything to make him feel better. Expensive stuff; helicopters and ocean liners. He forgets the little things like family and friends that could cheer him up.
