Sister (New) Lyrics
Passing time with you in mind
It’s another quiet night
I feel the ground against my back
Counting stars against the black
I think about another day
Wishing I was far away
Wherever I dreamed I was
You were there with me
Sister, I hear you laugh
My heart fills full up
Keep me please
Sister, when you cry
I feel your tears running down my face
Sister, Sister keep me
I hope you always know its true
I would never make it through
You could make the sun go dark
Just by walking away
Playing like we used to play
like it would never go away
I feel you beating in my chest
I'd be dead without
Sister, I hear you laugh
My heart fills full up
Keep me please
Sister, when you cry
I feel your tears running down my face
Sister, Sister keep me
I hope you always know its true
I would never make it through
You could make the heaven's fall
Just by walking away
Just by walking away
Sister, when you laugh
My heart fills full up
Keep me please
Sister, when you cry
I feel your tears running down my face
Sister, Sister keep me.
It’s another quiet night

Counting stars against the black
Wishing I was far away
Wherever I dreamed I was

this song is sick, he performed it in st. louis for the opening night of 2006 summer tour and it was amazing, he asked for total silence at got it, dave is a god on every level.
You can say that again....
You can say that again....
This song is about Jane, Dave's younger sister. It's not about Anne, his sister who was murdered. Some think it is a tribute to Anne because there are few songs that actually are tributed to her. But the album "Remember Two Things" is actually a tribute to Anne. And this song, is dedicated specifically to Jane like those who said it before. Dave was having trouble writing some new material, and he referred to Jane for some help in which she told him to "Get your head out of your ass." This song is the result of Dave pulling his head out, and wrote a beautiful song in honor of his Sister Jane.

I was at the show in STL too. i must say, this song was just beautiful, and the crowd's response was beautiful. Dave came out for the first song of the encore alone and asked everyone to quiet down and listen and we all did, hanging on every note because it was unfamiliar to everyone. he also played it the next night in Kansas City, which was when he announced it was a brand new song.
going on what i know about Dave, i'd say this could either be about his sister that passed away or his other sister or both. its actually prolly all at once. remembering the good times thats hes had with each of em. there's nothing like a good brother/sister relationship and he obviously realizes that. Dave is a genius and the band just gets better every time i see them. Tuesdays's show was the best musician ship i've ever seen out of DMB. believe it or not their jams have gotten even better if u can imagine. to those who have never seen DMB live, i highly recommend it. peace
I was at both Indy shows and when he played the songs he asked for silence and got it. He said that when he was having trouble writing songs he called up Jane and she said "Get your head out of your ass" So he wrote this about that.
In Detroit 6/6/06 he mentioned it was about Jane. He said what Kyle said, and also that when they were younger him and Jane used to pretend that her heart somehow got inside him and his inside her chest when she was born, and that this song was about that.
Just saw Dave and the boys play lastnight in Pittsburgh, he played this song by himself for the first encore, mentioned that Jane told him to get his head out of his ass and all that...just like everyone else had mentioned above. He also told the story that ProudestMonkey said about having Jane's heart in his chest and she had his....but he said that when she was born he always thought thats how it was. So just a slight variation there.
Good song, wonder if it'll end up on a new album or not, and if it does....I wonder if it'll be a new Dave solo album or a full band song. Whichever it is, I hope it ends up exactly how he played it...acoustic and by himself.
I also saw dave in Pittsburgh both nigths June 9th and 10th. He played Sister for the first song of the encore of both nights. This song is one of my favorites and if you havent been to a dave concert you are missing out on one of the best performers and concerts that you will ever.
and these were his exact words before he played sister
"This is a real quiet song but it doesnt last too long so if you dont like it just be patient my friend. My little sister Jane and I used to say that when she was born that somehow our hearts were switched and she got her heart in my chest and i got my heart in hers, anyway shes quite a friend of mine." (he plays the guitar) " I'll tell you one thing tho, when i started writing this song, I didnt have any idea about what words I was going to write. and she told me to get my head out of my ass"
he played this last night in Toronto last night, it was beautiful
I was at the toronto concert last night too, it was so good. He basically said the same thing from the Pittsburgh show, anyways, yeah, absolutly brilliant song.
