Home Was Good Lyrics
Go on ahead,
Your story is just where you left it.
Go on ahead,
But I still can't believe you can't help it.
95%
Happened in the home
Swallowed by the bed
And caught in the phone.
Hammering the walls
And sleepwalking falls
Overstepping out
And haunting the halls.
Go on ahead.
Go on ahead.

I always thought the song was about accidental deaths! maybe I am way off the mark here, but it's my interpretation. Swallowed by the Bed - Suffocation? Caught in the Phone - tripping on the Lead? Hammering the Walls - into Electrics maybe? Sleepwalking Falls - as it says? Overstepping Out - walking out the house, sleep walking? Haunting the Halls - visiting back after the unfortunate accident!
What do you think on this interpretation???
@lordjmiv That was my first thought as well - the 95% 'happen at home' line talks about some incidents of which 95% happen at home. That 95% of accidental deaths happen at home might be an overstatement, but the lyrics do seem to be getting to some place in that vicinity.

@lordjmiv. This is right in step with how I have always seen the meaning.

Honestly my first interpretation was that it might be about assault, sexual abuse, or other kinds of verbal or nonverbal abuse against the innocent within the home. How the sounds of it hammer the walls, how it might be heard over the phone or administered over the phone, literally swallowed by the bed whether that's physical traces or the general trauma of it...I know when I've been very close to someone and slept with them in a certain place, that place becomes a difficult place to be when they're no longer present, it becomes infused with that spirit or feeling in a way (associations). The memories of it haunt the halls, turning a normal house into something horrifying for someone who lived through that stuff in it. Not sure on all the lyrics but that's the feeling I got personally.
I truly dig this one. Now one may read the bed part and think it's about sex.. ahaha. No, not even close. You see, I believe "the bed" is a symbol for putting something to rest. I believe this person maybe has something to say but wont..
it is about love..."Swallowed by the bed, And caught in the phone." it means waiting for a call...for an answer...
I'm actually a poet, and I tend to write in KevMo's sorta cryptic, confusing style, especially when writing something personal. So this is what I see, at least in the "chorus":
95% Happened in the home Swallowed by the bed And caught in the phone.
My summary of this is that the 5% we don't know about was something someone said to him that he began to doubt he could trust the person, OR there was a small argument, OR he felt a pang when he knew he'd have to confess something on the phone later. I dunno for sure, but it feels to me like something along those lines.
Next, the other 95% happened in his home, specifically in his bedroom. It's possible that he has a phone in his room, and that he was now proceeding to call this person he was just with to discuss what happened or make a confession or something.
I might tackle the other verses and choruses and whatnot at some later time, but I'll have to think about this one.
