The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
On the first day
I set the scene on a magazine
And now I hurt someone
In the next scene
I cracked the code of the episode
And now I'm having fun
In a house
In the mountains
There's a way to fall asleep
And I know when I find it
I will let this go
I can still feel my hope twitch
Crushed by the force of chromosomes
It's a trail map to a bear trap
Separating poor torn camouflage
Under house
Under water
Lay your wing-clipped history
And I know
When I find it
I will let this go
I set the scene on a magazine
And now I hurt someone
In the next scene
I cracked the code of the episode
And now I'm having fun
In a house
In the mountains
There's a way to fall asleep
And I know when I find it
I will let this go
I can still feel my hope twitch
Crushed by the force of chromosomes
It's a trail map to a bear trap
Separating poor torn camouflage
Under house
Under water
Lay your wing-clipped history
And I know
When I find it
I will let this go

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
Actually its more like this: On the first day, I set the scene in a magazine And now I've hurt someone.
In the next scene, I cracked the code of the episode And now I'm having fun.
In a house... In the mountains... There's a way... to fall asleep... And I know... When I find it... I will let... this... go. (go-go... go-go)
I can still-still still feel-feel my hope, Whi-i-ich ccccccrushed by the force... of... chromosomes. (sic) Its a traaaaiiilllilmap to a bbbeartrapssseparating poor torn camoflage.
Under house, Under water Lay your wing-clipped history. And I know When I find it I will let... this... go.
On the first day, I set the scene in a magazine And now I hurt someone.
In the next scene, I cracked the code of the episode And now I'm having fun.
In a house In the mountains Theres a way to fall asleep And I know When i find it I will let... you... go.
I think you're off with the house mountains line pineapple_guy.
The house in the mountains is a separation from your issues, or a place to run away and forget. Rather than dealing with the issues you can find a place to forget, then finally let go and sleep easy.
I love this song. It's so... Kevin Moore. The meaning is kinda confusing though.

Great song...you listen to it, and it's as if waiting for the punchline to a joke. and then at the end..."I will let...YOU...go...." Clever, clever...
Pretty complex. =P It's pretty abstract. My take? Well, I can't explain it, but it expresses some emotions I have. Beautiful music, too.
Space dye vest was a song written about a man who falls in love with a vest model in a magazine. My interpretation of the song is that Kevin's first 'scene' was with Dream Theater where he 'hurt someone' in the band and wrote a song about a magazine.
Then in his next scene he went off as an individual and had his own fun. He's searching for himself and enlightenment and when he finds it he can 'let this go'
'This' being whatever is stopping him from being the person that he'd like to be.
He lives in Turkey I believe and visits Costa Rica, so I think the next verse is just him explaining where he lives now. In a house on a mountain. Where he is lost in his own thoughts or as he puts it 'fall asleep'
I suppose the chromosome remark is about him talking about how his genetics lead him to where he is now, a 'trailmap to a beartrap' so I suppose he feels trapped in some ways.
Great song!
That makes amazing sense... seeing how Space-Dye Vest was the last song he wrote for Dream Theater.
kevin moore sings great ! he's the man ... i believe all this OSI ideas are more running from this ex-keyboardist of dream theater !
