Worth Dying For Lyrics

Set me off like dynamite strapped tight around my waist
We are the ones in competition but claim this ain't no race

(Let's go!)

Take a breath and explode like bullets
Tearing through the wind
Cut me up with a razor blade
Then try to separate the skin
Now when the
White flames are burning flags
We found a world worth dying for yeah
We've been battered so hard that
We don't feel anymore

Take me from this world
Save me
What if we all die young
So take me from this world
Save me
What if we all die young

Send me off on the morning breeze so far away from here
Fill your eyes in the strains of thought outside the warm embracing air
I'm moving slow
Like a glacier melting
Watch me dissipate
I switched to love in an empty world
But all I found was hate

Now when the
White flames are burning flags
We found a world worth dying for, yeah
We've been battered so hard that
We don't feel anymore

Take me from this world
Save me
What if we all die young
So take me from this world
Save me
What if we all die young

Don't ask me why
'Cuz I don't know
Don't ask me how
I'm gonna solve this on my own
Don't ask me why
'Cuz I don't know
These things I'll never face
Scratch out the warning race
The wreckage of a job well done
I saw a place I'd never seen before, yeah
And that morning I refused to close my eyes anymore

Take me from this world
Save me
What if we all die young
So take me from this world
Save me
What if we all die young

So take me [2x]

"at that moment i refused to close my eyes anymore"

I think that line is what Rise Against is all about. Accepting mistakes and our involvement in them, or the existence of them, and more importantly, how each person has enough power and influence to do something about it.

It's one thing to say you love the world and wear "Go green" merchandise (I am referring more to the ones that don't donate anything to help-the ones that help pollute...talk about hypocrisy) . It's another to do something about it that doesn't just involve false advertisement. Too many times have I approached someone wearing that type of thing and asked them what their opinion on vegetarianism and global warming was, only to get responses like: "meat is delicious, I had it last night for dinner" and "FOX said it was nothing to worry about, my new hummer is a real beauty"

I used to eat meat, and still say how much I cared about the earth. Rise Against helped me realize the hypocrisy in that. There's still a lot more i can do to help address the issues and problems of our world, but at least i can recognize that.

I don't think that's exactly what this song was about. Just thought it was related.

The mistakes in the lyrics really make analyzing it difficult

"These things I'll never face Scratch out the warning race"
this isn't the only typo but i think its a great line that got screwed over...

It should be: "scratch out but won't erase" I am not positive, but that's what I've always thought

To me this song is trying to get across the point that there are problems in the world (predominantly regarding war, but i think there may be some subtle references to the environment) And how everyone needs to recognize them before we can fix them so that together we can try to fix it.

this verse to me is incredibly influential:

"These things I'll never face (problems that may not directly affect you) Scratch out but won't erase ( try pretend they aren't there, or mask, but regardless still remain) The wreckage of a job well done ( These problems/wreckage are the result of someone/people) I saw a place I'd never seen before, yeah(once realizing these problems or hearing about them, the world is seen from a new, more informed perspective) At that moment I refused to close my eyes anymore" (Once you realize the severity and magnitude of the issues at hand, you won't let yourself ignore them and pretend they aren't there any longer)

"I used to eat meat, and still say how much I cared about the earth. Rise Against helped me realize the hypocrisy in that." Apparently you have not seen or read about the overpopuluation of deer and how starvation is a long, painful death. Also, why is it we care so much about animals, yet daily we allow for the slaughter of growing HUMANs with heartbeats, brain waves, and DNA markers and call them a "choice." Jesus ate meat. If it's good enough for the most humble and kind-hearted man whom ever lived, it is fine for me. In...

haha no its not 9/11. i belive its the nature of the world. Rise Against feel very strongly about the fate of the world, and if you've seen the video for Ready To Fall you know what i mean. those three lines tokenwhiteguy, they mean we've done a good job fucking up the world and he obviously went camping or hiking and saw the worlds true beauty and that morning he refused to close his eyes anymore meaning that he will not turn his back to the polluting and shit anymore. it makes total sense. and theyre anti-bush so it cant be 9/11 shitstick.

I would first like to respond to the comment that this song seems nihilistic. There is no way this song is sung from a nihilistic view point. Nothing rise against does supports nihilism. The first line of the song is "Set me off like dynamite", and there are a handful of other lines that I don't have to point out that call for change. The only kind of uncertainty in this song is the fact that he wants to make a difference but dosn't know how he can revearse all the damage that has been done

Next I would like to address the comments about Rise Against being "hippies". This comment couldn't be further from the truth. Just because someone has political views that shift to the left dosn't make them a hippie. These people are openly calling for revolution, even if it is violent. A "hippie" wouldn't do that.

"Now when the White flames are burning flags We found a world worth dying for"

Wonderful line isn't it? I love the image, I'm still working on the song as a whole (it seems a bit nihilistic, but I think really it's more about rising out of that and finding something worth fighting for), but taken out of context it makes for a hell of a quite.

It is a hell of a quote.

With this song, I can't help but think of war. I know there's another meaning there (people have said "Environmental Desctruction", etc. etc.),...

The wreckage of a job well done I saw a place I'd never seen before, yeah And that morning I refused to close my eyes anymore

rmak89s got the right idea. man, not every song is about 9/11 asshole. Its about the industries and the producers and the logging companies and farmers and how they're all fucking up the world. Huge forests are being cut down, animals are mistreated everywhere and we hid behind some ignorant view that the world is a nice place. That line, and this song is about waking up and realising we can make a difference.

while i have to question why you have to be probush to sing about nine eleven i do agree that this song is probably about the fate of the world, mainly because rise against are all kind of modern day hippies, but really i just want to say that i agree with speeed.

you should have to be pro bush to sing about 9/11, but that ..man.. turned the entire disaster into government "vote for me or this will happen again" propaganda... but thats not the point. this is about people getting up and dong something about the world that we've pretty much destroyed. "in the wreckage of a job well done, i saw a place i'd never seen before" Its a revelation, of sorts, in which he realises that we've destroyed the world. and now he will refuse to close his eyes anymore, in that he will stop pretending not to see all the horror and destruction all around us. "what if we all die young" its sort of a 'loss of innocence' idea, i always thought. Where the young are the innocent and aren't responsible for the world's problems, but then they grow up to become part of the problem. Or it could be taken as a , if we all died young then we wouldn't be able to realise what's happening and do something about it...
