A bloodstained shirt, seductive smile,
With eyes full of hate and murders in style.
The sky turns red, the air is cold,
With one last chance to do as I'm told.

This city is far from here.
Now turn back, turn back.
I'm scared, but in the bright lights we fade into the rearview mirror.
This is the last attempt at a mere goodbye.

It's just beginning.
Does this story have an end?
Can you feel my empty heart inside a box and barely beating?
The walls are closing in.

So take my hand, we'll run forever 'til it ends.
Look what I've done now, you're dying from love and you're bleeding.
Why can't I just wake up from this life?
'Cause I'm dreaming.

Look what I've done now,
I'm sick of this town and I'm leaving.
Why can't I just wake up from this life?
'Cause I'm dreaming.

It doesn't matter much.
All those mistakes we made.
We're through now and we are leaving town tonight.
Outside a broken dream,

I feel unusual but safe there,
Like nothing can stop us now.

Your sultry eyes, your common kiss,
I'm in disguise, it's something I miss.

Your lipstick smears, I'm feeling grey,
With not much time to take me away.
This city is far from here.
Now turn back, turn back.

I'm scared,
But in the bright lights we fade into the rear-view mirror.

Parts of this seem to me about being in an abusive situation and just feeling like it's impossible to get away..

A bloodstained shirt, seductive smile, With eyes full of hate and murders in style The sky turns red, the air is cold, With one last chance to do as I’m told. This city is far from here now Turn back, turn back I’m scared, but in the bright lights we fade Into the rearview mirror

That, or it's just me trying to turn myself into a song.

Yea, I agree with XxbrokendreamexX.. It does seem like someone is in an abusive relationship. This is my life in a song... my dad hits me...and I feel like I cannot tell anyone because it will bring the rest of my family down.

Look what I’ve done now, You’re dying from love and you’re bleeding. Why can’t I just wake up from this life? Cause I’m dreaming. Look what I’ve done now, I’m sick of this town and I’m leaving. Why can’t I just wake up from this life? Cause I’m dreaming.

This sounds like me alright... It's me trying to escape from this hell hole.

The "town" represents my life, and I am sick of living like this .

And the "dreaming" part means that I can't believe this is happening to me, and I just want to wake up from it all.

I feel so emo right now..^-^ lol

For me this song is about my life... Like I really fucking hated the town I lived in, I hated the people in my school, my house, everywhere, I wanted to get away. I had a best-friend and I wanted to leave with her. We made allot of mistakes together so we wearn't allowed to see each other... "So take my hand, We’ll run forever ‘till it ends" "Look what I’ve done now, I’m sick of this town and I’m leaving. Why can’t I just wake up from this life? Cause I’m dreaming." "It doesn’t matter much. All those mistakes we made. We’re through now and we are leaving town tonight. Outside a broken dream, I feel unusual but safe there, Like nothing can stop us now. So take my hand, We’ll run forever ‘till it ends."

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
