Come Awake Lyrics
Are we left here on our own?
Can you feel when your last breath is gone?
Night is weighing heavy now
Be quiet and wait for a voice that will say
Come awake, from sleep arise
You were dead, become alive
Wake up, wake up, open your eyes
Climb from your grave into the light
Bring us back to life
You are not the only one who feels like the only one
Night soon will be lifted, friend
Just be quiet and wait for a voice that will say
Rise, rise, to life, to life
Shine
Light will shine
Love will rise
Light will shine, shine, shine, shine
He’s shining on us now
Can you feel when your last breath is gone?
Night is weighing heavy now
Be quiet and wait for a voice that will say
You were dead, become alive
Wake up, wake up, open your eyes
Climb from your grave into the light
Bring us back to life
You are not the only one who feels like the only one
Just be quiet and wait for a voice that will say
Rise, rise, to life, to life
Light will shine
Love will rise
Light will shine, shine, shine, shine
He’s shining on us now

I love how the opening sounds like a heart rate monitor, beeping to "death", and then it later sounds like an alarm clock clanging and clanging to wake up the dead!
this song is so artistic. it starts with a heart-monitor slowing to a flatline. then the song discusses death, what is it like? the chorus is God's words to us, both upon receiving His new life and upon entering into His eternal rest. i absolutely love the line "you are not the only one who feels like the only one." (that line belongs with the next stanza, by the way, not the chorus) then at the end there's a classic bell alarm clock ringing louder and louder and louder till it cuts out and the song fades to a simple heartbeat. beautiful
I think that this song is not only about death but also about Christ bringing us life and how we have to listen to His voice, like when He call us to give our lives to him, that's when He's bringing us back to life.He will come back for us "Night soon will be lifted".
When I hear this song, I think of my grandma. I think about how we were so upset when she died, but how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead simply by speaking to him. Not that I picture my grandma literally coming back to mortal life ( I wouldn't want her to suffer any longer), but how she's only "asleep" for a moment, until she's woken by His presence and brought into eternal life ("Climb from your grave into the light").
Also, I think of Jesus' crucifixion and the effect it had on some of His followers ("You are not the only one who feels like the only one"). Then, in the "head noise" part with the alarms and ticking, I think of the third day when He rose again. It was like God was waking Him up, saying "Arise, rise, rise, rise....shine! Shine!" proving His promised victory over death. "He's shining on us now!"
