We Are Pilots Lyrics

Holding close my secrets
Naked broken pieces
From the madness in what you do
The fingers point right back at you

What about my problems?
The people try to solve them
I guess I'm under the weather
Since no one else belongs here with me

Hello mother, some news for you
I'm really not that crazy
Hello father, I'm curious
Why you think there's something wrong with me

Sunday I cried all night
And it hurt so bad
But if you try to understand
This is who I am

Color coated sweetness
Swords beneath my clean dress
I'm making sense of shattered dreams
'Cause I want you to be proud of me

What about my problems?
The people try to solve them
I guess I'm under the weather
Since no one else belongs here with me

Hello mother, some news for you
I'm really not that crazy
Hello father, I'm curious
Why you think there's something wrong with me

Sunday I cried all night
And it hurt so bad
But if you try to understand
This is who I am

My personal opinion on this song is that it's talking about unaccepting parents. That's not too hard to find out, but unaccepting of what? Homosexuality, maybe... since alot of people believe something is 'wrong' with homosexuals. If I put my self in that position, and 'came out' to my parents, I can see all the things in that song perfectly describing that situation.

"Sword beneath my clean dress" ~ All my life, my mother would scold me about the proper ladylike things.. Hiding a sword beneath a dress, could maybe mean hiding a more boyish part of herself?

This song can be about someone feeling out of place or misunderstood for any reason. To me, it sounds like a child coming out to their parents. They are saying they aren't crazy and nothing is "wrong" with them just because they are gay. They feel alone and cry because no one understands and people try to "solve" their "problems".. When she sings "this is who I am", it gives me chills.

Brilliant and one of the best songs on the album!

I think it's quite clear that this is about unaccepting parents, but I don't see anything that points specifically at homosexuality.

I think it's basically describing any child that goes against their parent's wishes or does something that they don't accept, which would include being gay. I think the swords beneath the clean dress represent her rebellious nature underneath the 'prim and proper' exterior that she puts on for her parents.

I know its a tad bit cliché to say that this song is soo in my shoes, but this song is soo in my shoes. Always being invalidated... the more you try the worse it gets.

I got my CD yesterday... Shiny Toy Guns rocks... another reason to listen to synth pop.

Very catchy tune too... especially the 'hello' parts. Actually I like any song that comes from an inner child's view.

Makes me think of "Garden State" cause they just dope up the son thinking he has all these problems and keep themselves distant, when it's really the dad who has the problem.

I think the song is about what all you have been saying ^.

but when i first heard it, i thought it was about someone in a crazy hospital.

"Hello mother, some news for you I'm really not that crazy Hello father, I'm curious Why you think there's something wrong with me"

she's saying she doesn't know she's crazy.

"What about my problems? The people try to solve them I guess I'm under the weather Since no one else belongs here with me"

People try to help her "craziness" and she guesses there's something wrong with her, but she doesn't think so.

that was just what i thought when i first heard it though :)

It could be about homosexuality; but, like Prof.Loser thought, I believe it's more about having to be institutionalized for something like suicide, being depressed. The "some news for you" and "I'm really not that crazy" could literally mean she's in a place to get better and counselors are trying to inform her parents she's not broken or damaged in any way. And "making sense of shattered dreams" would be her trying to analyze why she's feeling morbid and depressed. "The people try to solve them [problems]" would be the counselors/psych's helping her. But, like I said it could be about homosexuality, but I prefer my version. :]]
