Amnesia Lyrics
Trampoline
Baby I'm your trampoline
Oh you jump, so hard
But I always catch your fall
So now I'll just hide away
You know I think I will hide away
Oh I run, so fast
But I always lose them all
Chorus:
I wish I could go to sleep and wake up with amnesia
And try to forget the things that I've done
I wish I knew how to keep the promises I made you
But life, I guess it goes on
Yeah, I know it goes on
You see, I've learned it goes on
But then I'll hang us on the wall
And I'll crawl to the open side
And I'm blind to it all
So why don't you
Crawl in my open side
Become blind to it all
Time to pray
You know I think it is time to pray
For the contortion, my abortion
That I somehow shoved away
I think it is right for me
You know, I think it is right for me
When I was young I was stung
And I somehow lost God's faith
Chorus:
I wish I could go to sleep and wake up with amnesia
And try to forget the things that I've done
I wish I knew how to keep the promises I made you
But life, I guess it goes on
Yeah, I know it goes on
You see, I've learned it goes on
Then I'll hang us on the wall
And I'll crawl to the open side
And I'm blind to it all
So why don't you
Crawl in my open side
Become blind to it all
To it all, to it all, to it all, to it all, all all
Yeah yeah yeah, ah ah
Way back when I must have sinned
I break down profound, beginning, end
Head-trip, re-grip what doesn't mend
But I'm wishing this amnesia would kick in
Way back when I must have sinned
I break down profound, beginning, end
Head-trip, re-grip what doesn't mend
But I'm wishing this amnesia would kick in
Baby I'm your trampoline
Oh you jump, so hard
But I always catch your fall
So now I'll just hide away
You know I think I will hide away
Oh I run, so fast
But I always lose them all
I wish I could go to sleep and wake up with amnesia
And try to forget the things that I've done
I wish I knew how to keep the promises I made you

I think you guys are essentially on the right track: he made a mistake and wants to forget it. Whatever it's about, I love the song. It's one of several Blue October songs that during those last few seconds of the song, you can't help but hit 'back' and listen to it again. Does everyone experience this, or is it just me?
This song is about the mistake of becoming addicted to drugs. He loved someone who was doing them to and he always helped that person "Always catch your fall" and then he moved on in life and decided he didn't want to do drugs anymore. "I wish I could go to sleep and wake up with amnesia And try to forget the things that I've done I wish I knew how to keep the promises I made you But life, I guess it goes on Yeah, I know it goes on You see, I've learned it goes on Then I'll hang us on the wall And I'll crawl to the open side And I'm blind to it all So why don't you Crawl in my open side Become blind to it all To it all, to it all, to it all, to it all, all all"
This is the transition going from drugs to sober, he talks about blinding himself to all the drugs and things he did and goes to an "Open Side" which is being able to live without Dependency on drugs and he wishes the person he loves would "Crawl in my open side, become blind to it all"(become sober too) This is what i think but then again a song could mean something to me and what he meant it to be could be another. Let me know if you know the meaning for sure
@TheOriginalChubbz This is one of the best interpretations of it I have heard. I definitely agree with you.

i think this is him saying that he wishes he could forget a past mistake (an abortion he had done?)
"I think it is right for me You know, I think it is right for me When I was young I was stung And I somehow lost God's faith"
he is rationalizing the act, then admitting that he was young and irresponsible and stunned by the pregnancy.
that's how i've seen it anyway.
your looking too much into a few lines maybe those are examples of mistakes he would like to forget along with a bunch of other ones but its positive he wants to forget

@Ryllick ...wow..did they really kill a fetus in his stomach?... I mean i guess it could happen...its a shame he didnt go thru with the pregnancy..that would've been awesome.

It does sound like that, but as far as I know.. he was involved with drugs.. He stopped at 21. But it really fvkd him up.
DISCLAIMER I have just obtained a copy of Justin Furstenfeld's book Crazy Making. It's not very detailed, but it contains all the lyrics to all current (The Answers - Approaching Normal) Blue October songs, and his inspiration behind them. As I said, it's not very detailed, but it's his words on every Blue October song that is in the book. I know everyone interprets a song differently from everyone else, but having the original intent behind the song will be helpful to people who don't fully understand a song. Also, any grammatical errors are not made by me, I'm putting down Justin's words exactly how he writes them. So yea... enjoy :)
