Mrnorth – Silver Mouth Lyrics 15 years ago
when i saw them perform this live, the lead singer said that it showed how not only americans cared about our (america's) politics. basically it's about how they disagree with george bush and the war in iraq.

The 88 – Sons and Daughters Lyrics 15 years ago
i love this song. it looks to me to be about a dramatic change in the world in some way. My first instinct is that it's about the 2008 election... maybe. just going by the general feel of the lyrics and the year the album came out. very hard to tell though, the lyrics seem very metaphorical. my favorite type of song writing!

OK Go – Needing/Getting Lyrics 15 years ago
this song really resonates with me. I think it captures the feeling of being in love with someone who just doesn't feel the same in a way that is both direct and insightful. he feels like he won't be complete until he "gets" her, but at the same time he realizes the futility of this passion. Yet he can't change it.

kreniigh - "if you Google search for these lyrics, you find a bunch of sites like lyricstime, smartlyrics, etc. that all have the exact same lyrics, right down to the typo in the second verse ('pratice').

What's up with that? "

a long time ago i posted some lyrics to some songs from one of my favorite bands here on songmeanings, but they are pretty unknown, and no one ever posted replys or any more lyrics. a few months ago i'm googling lyrics fr the band, and i come across multiple sites that had seemingly copy+pasted all the lyrics i posted. same ten-or-so songs, same exact interpretations of hard to hear parts, capitilizations. everything.

it seems many of these lyrics sites just copy all their stuff from other websites.

This is about a guy who is so desperate for love that he marries the first attractive girl he can get his hands on, then finds out that his life is otherwise empty.

The Wallflowers – Three Ways Lyrics 18 years ago
this song has always impressed me lyrically, but it struck me the other day that i've never really thought of what it's about. which is a strange thing for me.

my working theory is that it's a sort of intervention for someone who has severely destructive tendencies. when they are confronted with an obstacle (being trapped in a box or on a merri-go-round) it doesn't matter if they have other options, they will find a way to cause the most distress for themselves or those around them. when faced with an especially hard situation (being on a burning bridge) they would rather give up than give in.

im thinking through my type, here. help me out :)

Tesla – Edison's Medicine Lyrics 18 years ago
nice analysis, atomichron.

"Steinmetz and Twain were friends that remained,
Along with number three."

i know nikola tesla had a obsessive compulsion to stay in hotel rooms with numbers divisible by three. perhaps the "number three" that remained his friend means the literal number three? i'm not sure if he obsessed about the digit in other areas of his life.

perhaps the term "edison's medicine" is a reference to tesla himself and the fact that he was the "medicine" to edison's virus?

"All that he saw, all he conceived,
They just could not believe."

tesla was brilliant, and proposed things which even today are hard to believe. think teleportation, time travel, recording thoughts on paper.

"You took a shot and it did you in."

at first, i thought this meant tesla died from a gunshot, but he wasn't shot. maybe it means he took risks for the sake of his ambitious ideas, and suffered many hardships and poverty for it? in fact, now that i think of, that fits perfectly!

Līve – Flow Lyrics 19 years ago
he's saying he has to find a way to live without going insane (flow) in this world that eats away at you (where babies grow old) and few basic principles have lasting value (love is bought and sold)

he finds solace in religioun however (the mouth of god is wide, so let's just fall inside) and that is the message of the song.

good analysis, eyecon. i initially thought it was a song protesting the prevelance of cookie-cutter popuar music.

he talks about breaking the mold, and pissing in the mainstream (showing their disrespect for the kind of stuff which is popular today)

"open up your cage, focus all your rage" could mean to let your emotions into your songs, rather than playing it safe and going with the radio friendly stuff.

but i think your idea is more apt.

Blue October – Amnesia Lyrics 19 years ago
i think this is him saying that he wishes he could forget a past mistake (an abortion he had done?)

"I think it is right for me
You know, I think it is right for me
When I was young I was stung
And I somehow lost God's faith"

he is rationalizing the act, then admitting that he was young and irresponsible and stunned by the pregnancy.

that's how i've seen it anyway.

Blue October – Drop Lyrics 19 years ago
To me, this song looks like an interpretation of what someone's (maybe justin's?) conversations with their phsyciatrist are like.

the lyrics describing various symbols sounds like a dream, dreams, or maybe repressed memories.

i'm not sure what the trip is. perhaps a trip to a mental hospital? or a specialized phsyciatrist.

the drop is one from a place of well being. he's singing from the perspective of his shrink, essentially telling himself that it's up to him to decide how healthy he is phsycologically, and that he's going to be okay until he decides to drop from that place again.

"now I'm so high, so high, so high.
So I, so I decide."

he's relatively happy, and that scares him, so he goes back to the familiar territroy of being depressed/disturbed.

that's how i see it, anyway.
