The United States has decided to add 1 Part Per Million (ppm) of Fluoride to the water supply. This song could be referring to this. The fluoride propaganda suggests fluoride is good for your teeth. Fluoride is a heavy metal, a by-product of the aluminum industry that was originally released as a gas into the air, but after damaging effects on neighboring people and property was forced to be controlled. This song is about the United States embracing their short term goals, completely disregarding the long term effects no matter destructive they are or how much they'll fuck up the earth. Some of the things like pollution or DDT etc.
though released in 1990 , this is even more relevant today as we continue to realize the coming effects of global warming.
the writing style is different, since this one of few songs written by the bands bassist, jay bentley. i like it. he should write more songs.
I think this is about the government trying to pass off obvious wrong doings as small and insignificant statistics. Even if it's only 'One part per million', it doesn't make it right, it's still unacceptable.
