Crouched down on a rooftop
In my mother's high-heeled shoes
I'm wondering if I will drop
Fly away with you

I can smell the rain coming
But I won't leave until it falls
I'm gonna soak in its downpour
Til I hear my mother's calls

Cause I am playing God
I am raising hell
As far as I can tell
I am all alone
Alone in this world
Alone, with you

I carry Spring rain in my hair
Weighted sorrow in perfect clouds
Bursting in the air
Wash away and drown

The roof slips beneath my feet
As the branches back away from me
The softest grass turns to concrete
But I will fly
I will fly
You will see

It's not that she can't live, it's that she wants to be with whoever died. It's a beatiful suicide.

This song is so sad. It is a song about committing suicide, and I do believe that it is at the mourn for her mother that drives her to do this. Because she mentions her mother: "Crouched down on a rooftop In my mother's high-heeled shoes I'm wondering if I will drop Fly away with you

I can smell the rain coming But I won't leave until it falls I'm gonna soak in its downpour Til I hear my mother's calls"

Which could mean that she is going to jump off the ledge of the building when the rain starts, and then when she is dead she will hear her mother calling out.

"The roof slips beneath my feet As the branches back away from me The softest grass turns to concrete But I will fly I will fly You will see"

Could mean that as the rain pours she does slip off the building, and as she is falling and after death she will "fly" to heaven to be reunited with her mother.

    My Opinion

until i really thought about the lyrics and listened to them, all this song was to me was a sad yet beautiful melody played in the episode of degrassi when jimmy got shot. but now, it speaks of suicide. the line that gets me the most is "the softest grass turns to concrete". Just imagining hitting the ground at that split second before your dead almost makes my heart stop...

This song is about committing suicide, because you couldn't live without the one you love who died. They miss them so much they can't go on living.

well, we all know what happened today at virginia tech, and whenever I hear about shootings, this song always reverberates in the back of my head. It is of course simultaneous with emma hugging toby on degrassi after their school shooting. To me the song is just sad. It's about being alone, and committing suicide..."The roof slips beneath my feet As the branches back away from me The softest grass turns to concrete" beautiful but sorrowful.

this song means alot to me. i don't know why, but its one song i replayed over and over and over when me &my boyfriend broke up. and everytime i hear it, it just brings me back to that hole i put myself in. that night i found out he cheated on me.

i start to cry everytime "The roof slips beneath my feet As the branches back away from me" starts to play.

    it always gets me.

That line " Cause I am playing God " tears me apart. I saw this icon on photobucket. It was rick pointing the gun at sean and on the gun it said "Im playing god" (obvisoly it was just animation or whatever.). Everytime I see that episode and hear that line...my heart fades...I start crying right away...I guess i never really listened to that song til i saw that icon. The im playing god line...I think it gets to me because...he is playing god (rick). He's taking people's life(or atleast trying to). and not just him...that guy at virginia tech...colimbine(sp?)...any school shooting...Their so young...havent even begun to live...and all of a sudden..just with a bang...their dead. so...I guess thats why that line gets me.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
