Party Line Lyrics

Here comes Ted with his best friend Fred
Coming up the avenue
Here comes Mike and you look just like him
Up and down the avenue

Those guys stay up on the party line
They make you cry in every way that you can
Those guys have money for you anytime
But you never make out with them

Here comes Brady with his fifty dollar baby
Coming out the alleyway
And here comes Davey with his funny little lady
Wiping all her tears away

Those guys, they cause you to fantasize
They dish it out, they make you comply like a man
Those guys have money for you anytime
But you never make out with them

Making out with the funny little lady
What you gonna do right now?
Making love with a funny little woman
Don't you wanna take me down?

Those guys stay up on the party line
They make you cry in every way that you can
Those guys have money for you anytime
But you never make out with them

I took it to mean like one of them sex chatlines that you see in the paper.

"Those guys have money for you anytime But you never make out with them "

They never make out with them because they are only on the other end of a phone. I dunno, just a thought.

I have no clue how come you guys think this is about prostitution... but then again English is not my native language, and that might be why my interpretation is different. I was thinking this is just about guys pretenting to be something they aren´t, which is why they "cause you to fantasize". They all seem to be fun to hang out with, brag about how they got money (cause money is supposed to make people attractive) when they are in fact idiots and make out with idiotic women. And a smart woman would never make out with them. But probably I´m completely off with this idea, as said, there might be details I don´t understand.

Well, this sounds a lot like guys that have been "friend zoned" to me. The way he talks about them basically always being there for girls, "but you never make out with them." I imagine that Adam Green is quite the ladies man, so it sounds to me like he sees this happen with girls that he's been with. As in, there are guys that care about the girl he's with far more than he ever would.
