So the first couple lines--which refer to running from your feelings--would, in this case, mean getting high so you don't have to deal with them.

"can leave you heaving on the floor gasping for breath"--Eventually the pain will be to great to mask with the usual amount of drugs (lets use heroin for the sake of this analysis), and you can/will end up overdosing.

"your either the person you are or the person your trying to be"--either you accept reality & your natural emotions, or keep trying to feel something different by getting high.

"dont let the outside sway too far from where you want to be"--if you're not careful, the life you have to live to support your habit can become worse than your old life, & you'll be farther than ever from the security you wanted.

"and at any cruel moments notice you can ruin the best as your body is brutally pressed against the confines of your tense flesh"--overdose/withdrawals.

"and if you close your eyes tight enough (none of the bad can get in) and if you close your eyes tight enough (none of the light can get in) the light cant get in (the light cant get in)"--as long as you live in your addiction you can escape intense pain but you will NEVER know real happiness. Ever.

You're withdrawing; in a world of pain--forced to remember what reality feels like. And to accept that all the pain and sadness you're experiencing was brought on by your own goddamn self. You never want to feel it again!!! ...And you never ever have to...just stay clean from that moment on. You thought you HAD to 'use'. You were a slave to the drug. But you can be free forever if you give it up now! There is still time--it hasn't killed you yet. You are still in control. Make the change. Save yourself.

i don't care what anyone says i like atreyu and have for awhile. this song may just be one of the best i've heard the screaming is amazing in the lyrics and then when the singing kicks in at the chorus its amazing. i'd have to say, though its common knowledge to do this, atreyu crafted the repeated scream in the chorus (Trying Trying Trying To Be) amazingly. the screaming there almost sounds as if its live and the crowd is shouting it back. wonderful as for the meaning its a strangly disturbing song yet not at the same time

i think it may be someone with multiple personalities have another infection, a parasite if you will, inside them.

Anyways, this song is awesome and starts the album out with a bang! I take the meaning to be reflecting on coming to know yourself; how many things affect how you are but you gotta keep some sort of true conviction for yourself, otherwise you may become this \"Creature\" that\'s described throughout the song.
