Heroine Lyrics

Mother, is it hard to recognize me now?
Mother, why can't you recognize me now?
I've sent my letters "Everything's fine" but I lied

Little boy little man
I've lost my name
Heroine oh heroine
Where have you been when I've needed you?

Little boy now little man
I've lost my name
Heroine oh heroine
Where have you been when I needed you?

from listening to a few songs i came to the conclusion that the album heroin is a concept album based around someones (sonney's?) mother, i guess this song proves it. Anyways the feeling i get from this song and most of the others from the album is that he feels as if the situation that he is in now (touring, away from home, songwriting) has left him with a weakened relationship with his mother, when he feels he needs her most. He feels that he has lost touch, lost himself and lost the bond with his mother he once had. The heroine is his mother. fftl could have made a carbon copy of dear diary.. and pulled it off and i got the feeling that was the way they were heading with the internet only release of failure by designer jeans but fftl have changed, matured and became the band they want to be. this song is amazing esp. outtro.

i love this song! its very powerful feeling. sonny's voice is very emotional in this and so is the rest of the sound. even when they aren't really saying anything you still get a stong feeling, and i really like the end when its mostly instument and like humming sounds and you can faintly hear sonny, theres just something about this part that i love and it makes me wanna cry everytime i hear it. i'm listening to it right now and it just gives me a weird and very strong feel. it truly is an amazing song!

well seeing as how sonny's adopted. i guess this song is maybe about finding his birth mother and asking her all these questions ya know?

yeah zedzed you might be kinda right maybe like sonny asking where is real mother is and all (since he's adopted) how old is sonny? i know hes still young but i heard he found out he was adopted before writing this album (but after dear diary) but then i heard he found out when he was 17 so is he that young??

yea sonny found out he was adopted at 17(i'm pretty sure anyways) and i think this is about how he felt lied too. i know where he's coming from. it's tough. i love how he expresses how he feels. i really get a lot of inspiration from him. great song, great album. :)

Sonny's 18 now, but found out when he was 17. I think this song is about adoption, as most of the other tracks are, and I absolutely love the last two and a half minutes, probably my favorite part of this entire album.

Would you all stop saying you are going to cry! jeez!

Yeah its a great song, the "Heroine" (female version of "hero", not the drug!) is his birth mother, and he's asking where his mother has been all this time - As she left him and he was adopted. I.e. "Where have you been when i needed you"

"I've lost my name" means he doesn't truly know who he is.

I think it's all already been explained in the previous "comments" but I must say, this is one of the most powerful songs on the record. Since he was adopted, I definitely think this is about him trying to communicate with someone (his mother) that's he's supposed to be so close to, but he's lost and he doesn't know how to anymore. I think the part about him lying in his letters is about him telling his adopted parents that he's fine, even if he's struggling with it. The song really shows off his amazing vocals and their ability to make a song click... Amazing.
