Danse Russe Lyrics
Hold onto me please
Don't you let go of me
Come on over
Roll on over
I just need to feel you breathe
Hold onto me please
Don't you let go of me
Think on over
Roll on over
I just need to feel you breathe....
Into my head is out of my mind
Then I become a day behind
And I can't help but wonder why that some days are the very worst case
When I cannot believe that I'm living this way
Kismet tell me its okay and I'll guess it's just a twist of the fate
There's a tiny dancer in my bed
And she never has too much to say
She reminds me of the Danse' Russe
When my emotions are wounded
Her motions and movements chase the ghosts from me
Hold on to me please
Don't you let go of me
Come on over
Roll on over
I just need to feel you breathe
Hold on to me please
Don't you let go of me
Come on over
Think it over
I just need to feel you...
Quietly while you sleep
Whispering the sweetest things
Close those eyes and start the dream
'Cause all of this is what you mean to me
Come over and I'll show you
Shamrocks are an eight-leaf clover
Won't you reach up and touch my shoulder
And sing to me heavenly
Yes, sing for the life of me
About a tiny dancer in my bed
When she never has too much to say
She reminds me of the Danse' Russe
When my emotions are wounded
Her motions and movements chase the ghosts from me
'Cause there's a tiny dancer in my bed
And she never has too much to say
She reminds me of the Danse' Russe
When my emotions are wounded
Her motions and movements ...
Won't you chase my ghost from me...
So much emotion, so much in motion
Chase this ghost for me.
Don't you let go of me
Come on over
Roll on over
I just need to feel you breathe
Don't you let go of me
Think on over
Roll on over
I just need to feel you breathe....
Then I become a day behind

in my opinion, hurt is one of the greatest and most unappreciated harder rock bands at this point in time. the lyrical content is just incredible. (This is rockerxchick by the way) This song gives me chills and it's ambiguity makes my head spin but it seems so carefully constructed. I just see this man expecting so much from a "doll," a woman who occupies his bed not because she loves him but because he needs her. Why is she called a "tiny dancer" and what is the "danse russe"? "I just need to feel you breathe" demonstrates the mans admiration and the fact that nothing is said about what she says or what she does shows you how she chooses to be uninvolved in the relationship. Very sad song.
"Into my head is out of my mind Then I become a day behind And I can't help but wonder why that some days are the very worst case" -Talking about how his life and problems weigh him down and make him pessimistic and depressed.
"When I cannot believe that I'm living this way Kiss me tell me its okay and I'll guess it's just a twist of the fate" -The girl is his relief from the pressures of life, with her help he brushes everything off as bad luck.
"She reminds me of the Danse Russe" When my emotions are wounded Her motions and movements chase the ghosts from me" -In the POEM, Williams talks about how his family is asleep and he is all alone, so he spends his time reflecting upon himself chanting about his loneliness. As for the SONG, the man feels apart from the girl because she's asleep, and all his problems start to hit him again, so he's left to remember the way she makes him feel.
Basically, its about his ups and downs when he's with and not with the girl. When she is with him his problems are a world away from him, and when he's gone, he remembers the way she makes him feel as to give himself something to look forward to rather then let depression take him.

Danse Russe appears to fall into two categories:
1) A poem by William Carlos Williams talking about his family sleeping and the narrator pondering himself dancing naked. Like most Williams poems, there's lots of different interpretations of the poem, most of which don't have much in common with this song. But it does talk about a man awake and seeing his love quietly asleep in a bed.
2) It's one of the movements in Tchaikosky's Swan Lake (or maybe the Nutcracker). The lead singer of Hurt is a fan of classical music, but I'm not real certain how this would relate to the song.
Danse Russe is literally French for Russian Dance.
I just read on the Hurt website that this song was inspired by the Williams poem and “a two-day experience with a lovely person.”
where can I download this song, please!!!

here is the link http://www.myspace.com/hurt
but i think they re good i like there sound and how they sing there songs makes them one of the best bands besides avenged sevenfold
these guys kick ass in concert...this is possibly the best song on the album.
I read somewhere that Russe actually means "red" and the poem that the song is referring to (this obviously is only one interpretation) the person in the poem (not the song) is dancing in front of a mirror covered in blood after killing his family. This is not my interpretation, it is one I read somewhere else about the poem itself. Somewhat gruesome.
Actually, "russe" is Russian, and "rousse" is red, however "rousse" is the feminine form, so if you would have to look it up under "roux". It's usually used when referring to hair color, because normally when referring to something as red in French, you simple use the word, "rouge". However, just from listening to this song, I originally thought that on a deeper level it could be talking about killing his wife. "Roll on over. I just need to feel you breathe..." gave that interpretation to me. From what I read, the poem that Hurt...

From what I read, the poem that Hurt based this song off of was meant to have multiple interpretations, so using the word "russe" could have simply been a play on words since "russe" and "rousse" are typically pronounced the same.
Sorry, I just wanted to let you know that "russe" and "rousse" are definitely not pronounced the same in French. Think of "ou" (written [u] in phonetic) as when you go "Ooo" and "u" (written [y] in phonetic]) as the japanese way of pronouncing "u", if you watch anime.

Not sure why the other interpretation said russe meant red, maybe it is referring to the fact that that's what Russians were once referred to as.
