Burn (Matt's Home Demo) Lyrics
There's a lightning storm each and every night
Crashing inside you like motorbikes
We toss and turn sleep so loud
Grind the teeth in our, our empty mouths
Are empty...
There's a forest fire burning bright
Spreading quickly towards our last rights
Nowhere to run pointless to hide
Just lay there and scream pretending to try
Pretending...
[chorus]
Intending to burn pretending to fight it
Everyone learns faster on fire
Things took a turn lost all desire
You live and you burn
You live and you burn
There's impending doom left deep inside
It's haunting you each and every night
Like starving wolves counting sheep
We close our eyes pretending to sleep
Descending...
[chorus]
Crashing inside you like motorbikes
We toss and turn sleep so loud
Grind the teeth in our, our empty mouths
Are empty...
Spreading quickly towards our last rights
Nowhere to run pointless to hide
Just lay there and scream pretending to try
Pretending...
Intending to burn pretending to fight it
Everyone learns faster on fire
Things took a turn lost all desire
You live and you burn
You live and you burn
It's haunting you each and every night
Like starving wolves counting sheep
We close our eyes pretending to sleep
Descending...

I know this just a demo but it lacks the drums and bass and the effect on the guitar pisses me off... but its stil Burn so its good :D
i agree, the demo lacks melodical depth. however, i find it raw, gritty, and a little more personal without the drums and bass. the vocals sound pure, and they more than make up for the lack of Dan and Derek.
when i first heard Burn, i was stunned that Matt could both write and play a song with that complex of a guitar effect. i haven't done any research into what gear he actually uses for the song, so don't criticize my guesses too much here. my first theory was that he used a wah and a delay pedal, and either controlled the wah himself or had a tech control it off-stage for live shows. after hearing his home demo version, i now believe he uses some combination of a delay and a phaser.
as to what the song is about, it's not entirely clear. it is obvious that it is about something that resides inside of your head, eating you up and burning you down. but as to what exactly that something is, i have no clue. anyone else know?
