Easy livin' Lyrics

This is a thing I've never known before
It's called easy livin'
This is a place I've never seen before
And I've been forgiven

Easy livin' and I've been forgiven
Since you've taken your place in my heart

Somewhere along the lonely road I had tried to find ya
Day after day on that windy road I had walked behind ya

Easy livin' and I've been forgiven
Since you've taken your place in my heart

Waiting, watching
Wishing my whole life away
Dreaming, thinking
Ready for my happy day
And some easy livin'

Somewhere along the lonely road I had tried to find you
Day after day on that windy road I had walked, walked behind you

Easy livin' and I've been forgiven
Since you've taken your place in my heart
Easy livin' and I've been forgiven
Since you've taken your place in my heart

Read the lyrics carefully... This song is about someone who becomes a Christian... The Holy Spirit has taken His place in their heart after forgiving them of their sins, so now they are "easy livin" On the winding road of life, they had tried to find God Day after day they had walked beside Him ...this song is describing being born again!

I meant to say "walked behind Him", not "beside".

I agree. This song is about finding Jesus. I also happen to know that Ken Hensley did come to Jesus and maybe this song is autobiographical.

@mbgrafix I woke up with this song in my head and didn't know all the lyrics. I think that's exactly what it's about or someone just finding god. Yesterday it was a church hymn in my head all day and I haven't been in like 30 years so hmm.

When I was a teenager I wasn't sure what this song meant, but after getting born-again I now understand that it's about receiving the Lord in your heart. So, I concur w/ mbgrafixon September 28, 2009 . Uriah Heep's Easy Livin' is one of my favorite songs of the 70's.

Am I the only one alive who really liked "High and Mighty"? I know it was different, but in a great way. Someone help me here!

@boneric22 \r\nI like the three first songs of the album very much, plus "Can\'t keep..." - but the rest is rather dull.

Absolutely love this song, it has such a nice tune, one of the many songs you can listen again and again without getting bored of it, since it can create some nice feels. Kfe2 pretty much said it, so I can't really add anything, it means easy living. That you don't stress yourself too much with things like work, that you don't try to be so successful in life. Dreaming full-time and wishing about things you might not be capable to complish at the moment, but some "other time".

this one much liked by my father.i think its about livin' hope.but i cannot what means ...and i've been forgiven since u take place in my heart.... forgiven by whom? for what? sorry for my english.

This song is about taking God (Christianity) Into your life and in your soul so its easy living after that

@russianseeker I agree with markbloom63 that this song is about accepting God (as you understand Him/Her) into your life but I don't think it is necessarily Christianity. It does sound much like he's speaking of Jesus (as does The Wizard) but to use His words, "And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold". He was referring of course to gentiles of all beliefs and, with the help of the apostles, particularly Peter and Paul, His words were assimilated into varies cultures and beliefs all over the world.

And @russianseeker, your English is quite good, you make yourself very clear :)

i think this song is about a guy finding a woman or god.. maybe his life was hard. hes dreaming, wishing. something changed it, a woman coming into his life or god. now he has something to fill up the unused place in his heart.

I totally think its is god not a woman

This song is about finding Meaning. The Big one, the Game-changer. Could be God, could be the Buddhist eye-opening, or finding the right man/woman (so rare.) When we find it, we are 'lost for words', can't say much, The simple (and few) words in this song speak of the pain/despair in 'seeking' and the euphoria in 'finding'. The powerful music and the voice convey the rest - the intensity and overwhelm of that path. (the way that W.A.S.P. sing it I find most powerful)

As a teenager, I was fascinated by the mere sound and immense expressive power of rock music - I didn't speak English at the time, little clue about the songs' meanings. Decades later, none of those songs thrill me like they used to. Except for this one. Still resonates with me deeply, so much charge, so true, so human. Joy through tears of 'having suffered enough to get to deserve 'my happy day', 'Been forgiven' could be but not necessarily is about Christ. Christ is not the only one who forgives. Thank you Uriah Heep for not being specific, thank for making this song sound universal.

Before there was "Money for Nothing" by Mark Knopfler/Sting in the '80s, there was "Easy Livin'" by Ken Hensley in the '70s. The song was inspired by the idea some people have that being a rock star is an easy life that involves not doing much and having money dumped in your lap. Uriah Heep was struggling to record "Demons and Wizards" and in a taxi ride home joked about this new "easy life" they had found which was in reality not easy and actually required a lot of hard work.

That conversation stuck in Ken Hensley's head that night as he wrestled with the meaning of it all. The idea that the goal of life is to get to the point where you have it easy and don't have to do much was foreign to him. He was doing what he was doing because he had a passion for creating music. It was hard work but he loved it. Had he gotten it all wrong? Was he just doing something to keep him busy until the day that his happiness would arrive in the form of an easy, carefree life?

"Easy Livin'" was Ken Hensley's way of saying "Nonsense!" to those ideas. How many of us slave away at something with the thought that one day life will be easy and then we'll have it made? How many of us are postponing our happiness for something that doesn't really exist? The song has religious overtones but it seems to me that they are used in a tongue in cheek way. Ken puts himself on a path seeking after "Easy Livin'" and then once he finds it, he is forgiven for not having pursued it sooner and more earnestly. Then, he can be at rest without a care in the world because he has arrived. Ken is saying that this is a ridiculous idea because nothing that's worth anything is easy.

Some have said that Ken is talking about finding Jesus in this song. Though he intentionally uses religious imagery, I don't think that's what he's getting at but his message does also apply to the Christian life. Jesus said that following Him would not be easy but it would be worth it. The idea that being a Christian puts you on easy street is as incorrect as thinking that Ken had it easy playing in a rock 'n' roll band.

The ultimate message of the song is to work hard and enjoy life and seek meaning rather than "Easy Livin'".

My Interpretation

Such a Grweat Song that is so damn under-rated. It seems to be about forgeting the rules and just going with the flow to wherever it should bring you.

@kfe2 It\'s UH most popular song with 25 billion plays on Spotify so it\'s not that underrated.
