i think this song means to give thanks to the stars, or someone looking out for you because you are not alone and when the stars are gone, just carry on and be strong because you have someone who has your back (who is watching out for you).
"I saw the sun again And I was happy to be there with my one true friend" means to be happy to be with that person because they will brighten up your day.

I love this song. It has that abstract/metaphorical thing to it as with "Ageless Beauty." It's beautiful.
I think it's about a couple going camping. They stay up gazing at the stars. Then the stars disappear in the cold light of morning. But then they watch the sun rise. Before they finally sleep that night they bid goodnight to the stars [the cosmic universe/God?] and think of the people before them [angels, or perhaps other campers]. The song is also cyclical, "watch the stars descend"......... It's a song brimming with hope, love, wonder and beauty. I think this song is truly Stars' signature song. Calme, luxe, volupte is their motto after all.

I think his is just very simply about the passage of time, and no matter what, the world will keep moving and we all jsut have to carry on. The first verse he's saying the stars are beautiful, but they'll be gone in the monrning. The second verse the next day comes and goes, and he's happy he was with his loved one that day. The last verse he's telling his love to say goodnight to the ones taht have been here before, or all the people in teh world who have passed on up in teh stars, and then watch the stars come back out and start all over. After each verse he says "we'll carry on" becuase as time goes by, taht's all you can do, jsut keep going.

I actually think this song is about death. The message is: Spend as much time with those you love, doing even mundane things, such as staring at the stars, because one day they'll be gone, and all you can do it carry on. :)
