Im going to quote what I said myself in the comments for point counterpoint but the meanings are identical.
"This song is awesome. Its about a dude who gets in trouble with some gang, he knows there out to get him, so he puts on a kevlar vest hoping for life that they'll shoot him in the chest and not the head when they do come, as he's waiting (no point in running away) he starts to think how much of a loser he was and low and behold, the gang didn't show up, and spared his life. The guy realizes hes gotton another chance at life, so he lives the most of it thanks to his near death experience.
At the end he's saying that the only way anyone would understand his lesson is to acually go through it themself."
the only difference between this and point counterpoint is point counterpoint gives a conclusion to the story where as keasbey nights ends on a cliffhanger.

he promised himself he wouldnt hurt himself again, hurting himself could mean, being in a bad relationship and not getting out because your afaird to make the jump, not going away to college cause your scared of leaving your hometown.
by the end of that verse he finds out that mistakes will happen, but hes gotta keep holding on, keep trying.
the chorus is about not letting those challenges getting the best of you, hes facing them head on, like a gun fight.
the second verse is about the same as the first. the first few liens are about him being a youth, just having fun. "dont stop cause you might get dropped" means dont stop holding on, "whose gonna pick you up cause i wont" means be self dependent, love yourself and make life the best you can.

for some reason, the chorus makes me think of the show 24. just the first connection i made.

This song always made me think of an old black and white 20's gangster movie. pinstriped suits, tommy guns, all that jazz. and because of that i always thought the same about point and counterpoint. and i also incorperated 9mm and three piece suit into the mix as well

He regrets his decision and wishes he could get out of it, but knows that the people he ran with won't let him quit the life of crime and they will kill him, but in point/counterpoint he waits and waits, but nobody ever comes.

Dude, your absolutely right, Im a fanatic about that show and I just relized that after reading your comment.
perfect example of how the chorus relates to 24. In the 5th season, when the president relizes he's gonna get caught and braught to justice, that scene had keasbey nights written all over it!
Also the entire operation behind season five (with the government conspiracy) relates to keasbey nights in its own way.

speaking of a crock of shit... how is the first one better? no where in either sone is there a reference to getting mixed up in some gang. That is lame, ya'll have been listening to Everything Went Numb too much. I think that brandnizzle6's explination is closer. I think that the gun and vest in BOTH songs are metaphorical...
Every SM or I guess in this case catch 22 song is metaphorical. But saying that yes the litteral meaning is like the 1st explanation although not neccessarily a gang. He just got himself in trouble and he knows "they" are coming to get him. The metaphorical meaning behind it is more of a way to say that a person can hurt himself without ever meaning to and that society will never help them up. It is implied that this construction of society, to not ever help another unless there is personal benifit, needs to change.
It's a cover of a Catch 22 song. It's not about gangsters or anything, it's about growing up in a shithole town like Keasbey but still having a hell of a time with friends and family. But then again, interpret it any way you please.
