The Press Corpse Lyrics

The ( Downing Street ) memo says…
…We gotta work to make the facts fit the false charges
Pull the wool over the eyes of the filthy masses
Stab the people in the back for the corporate choice
Roll the propaganda out using The People’s Voice

We don’t want to talk about it…

The press scribble scribble every half-truth spoke
Then shoot it round the country like an April Fools joke
Hype the nation for a Desert Storm love affair
Wave the stars and stripes like you just don’t care!

They talk it up all day, talk it up all night

Talk until their face turns blue – Red white and blue!
But when the truth escapes the night and crawls into the day
We find the picture still askew

They don’t want to… talk talk talk talk talk about it
They want tiptoe, walk around it
Wave the flag and mindlessly salute
They don’t want to talk about it
They want tiptoe, walk around it
Wave the flag and cowardly salute

And on the TV screen…

…Diversion and aversion is the flavor of the day
Was it WMDs? Or Democracy?
Blame it on MI-6 or the CIA
The White House Press Corpse only has one thing to say…

“We don’t want to talk about it!”

The White House boils over, “Al Jazeera got it wrong!”
The Press Corpse jumps onboard singing the White House song
While over in Iraq thousands are dead because of lies
The spineless war drumming-press corpse have taken lives

They don’t want to… talk talk talk talk talk about it
They want tiptoe, walk around it
Wave the flag and mindlessly salute
They don’t want to talk about it
They want tiptoe, walk around it
Wave the flag and cowardly salute
Fires fueled on endless lies
Black shrouds coat desert skies
A nation’s viewpoint blurred and led
As embeds report what they’re fed

This song was written in dedication of the mainstream-corporate media, in particular Judith Miller and the New York Times, who failed miserably in their role as The People’s investigative watchdog of the powerful and instead acted as a stenographer for the White House in the lead up to the invasion of Iraq . It is also dedicated to the Bush White House for successfully intimidating and shutting out any reporters who questioned their distortions, half-truths and lies in the build up to the war, and continue to do so. Most of all, this song was written in dedication of Democracy Now! as well as a handful of other courageous journalists for getting it right on Iraq , for continuing to report it like it is while the others report what is safe, and for putting integrity before profit.

Right on to Justin! This song is not only great fun, but the lyrics are a biting testament to the failings of the press to rise above crass commercialization and do the job of questioning the government - not to please the rating or one party or political view, but because the press is the last voice of true democracy. I love it alternative rock with a stinging point of view. Maybe the young generation will rise back up and sieze the future.

Investigative journalism is dying, and it's only partly the media corporations' fault. Just today, Gitmo threw out the remaining reporters that were observing prison conditions and reactions to the triple suicides. Fuck people like Rupert Murdoch for letting money dictate the news, and fuck the government for abridging freedom of the press.

I hate that this is a good song. I mean, even though these guys are apparently blithering idiots, it's a good song. "While over in Iraq thousands are dead because of lies" I hate that line, it's such a lie.

what would you call the self reichous bastards who sit in the senate and declare war on a small country in the middle east, accusing them of having WMD's and a fascist regime, some was true, but a large amount of foreign diplomacy is better then the sacrifice of young men and women . you sedistic fuck up!! these guys are a lot more intelligent then you!!

Obviously if you are a republican you wouldnt like most of the songs Anti-Flag likes because they are anti-bush/ anti-government. Regardless, this is my 3rd favorite songs on the album. I think it has a lot of meaning to it.

I think this song means that the government wants to talk about all of the good stuff that they are doing, hence the lines:

They talk it up all day, talk it up all night Talk until their face turns blue – Red white and blue!

But when the truth gets out about what they're doing they dont want to talk about it:

But when the truth escapes the night and crawls into the day We find the picture still askew They don’t want to… talk talk talk talk talk about it They want tiptoe, walk around it
