Insidiously Lyrics

Mind you mind me
You thought you could climb me
I'm sorry to cut your rope
Bu in you I've lost all hope
Mind you mind me
I haven't seen you lately
Oh how many times you liked to phone
To see if your seed I could sow

I tell you if that's what you're about
Friends like you I can do without

Mind you mind me
I laugh at your transparency
You're my new best friend
Your fucked up life can I mend
Mind you mind me
How things can change is a good week
Call me ruthless
But you stretch the truth oh yes

Believe me, I know you work
Insidiously

Mind you mind me,
you smile so sweetly
I'd call you an acquaintance stop with
Your exaggeration
Mind you mind me
I find it interesting to see
When I only offer you a smile, oh how
You forget to dial

I tell you if that's what you're about
Friends like you I can do without

This song is about friendship and deception. Someone becomes really good friends with someone else, and they invest so much time, energy, and emotions into the relationship, and the singer realizes that the other person they are 'best friends' with is accepting a lot in the relationship: moral support, guidance through their never-ending bad decisions, and complaining - "In you I've lost all hope... your fucked up life can I mend?", and the singer doesn't recieve much in return. So, the singer realizes that she doesn't need friends who take up all the energy from her slowly and insidiously, and only brings her down. She can do without people like that in her life.

This song struck a cord with me when I became best friends with someone, and took her home with me, only to be stolen from, cried to, and deceived. I feel like Sia has gone through the same thing as me in this song, and it gave me some strength to continue to see that I choose my friends, and friends are meant to uplift each other instead of bring the other person down. Also, this song is beautiful regardless of the lyrical content!!!
