Asleep (The Smiths cover) Lyrics
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I'm tired and I
I want to go to bed
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
And then leave me alone
Don't try to wake me in the morning
'Cause I will be gone
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I will feel so glad to go
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore
Sing to me
Sing to me
I don’t want to wake up
On my own any more
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I really want to go
There is another world
There is a better world
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Bye bye
Sing me to sleep
I'm tired and I
I want to go to bed
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
And then leave me alone
Don't try to wake me in the morning
'Cause I will be gone
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I will feel so glad to go
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore
Sing to me
Sing to me
I don’t want to wake up
On my own any more
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I really want to go
There is another world
There is a better world
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Bye bye

I listen to this song on Fag Patrol, and I see the song as being about a the speaker who is very alone and has felt alone for a long time. I'm not sure how old the speaker would be, but I think that the person might be at least in their twenties or thirties, because it seems like they have spent their life trying and failing, and now the person is really to the point where he just feels like giving up. I imagine that this person is singing to no one.
i get the feeling that this personis in his/her early- or midteens, and is angry with his/her mom i think, an is thinking about running away. that this person feels that every thing he/she does just goes wrong, that people take it the wrong way..
thats what i think, and i'm just so inlove with this song..
it's originally The Smiths' song.
oh lord. people need to stop trying so hard to find the hidden meaning! it's very plain, and simply written. it's basically a suicide note, or someone explaining they're about to commit suicide. I'm guessing the person is either taking pills to put them to sleep, and never wake again; either that or the song is speaking of carbon monoxide from a car engine singing him to sleep/death.
I agree that its about suicide. in particular the line "I'm tired and I I want to go to bed" reminds me of the john luc goddard film a bout de soufle
XIU XIU COVERED THE SMITHS?!
